Keeping Hayleigh's Story In The Public Eye

While I agree that the balloon release would make a beautiful sight, it's just that, a brief moment in time! There are links that state the balloons are biodegradable...what about the flyer that's IN the balloon?? Doesn't that cause pollution??

I personally would rather donate the $ to a much more worthy cause, providing necessary school supplies for those children in need! A mind is a terrible thing to waste! You can send your donation directly to the school, since I'm sure some are aprehensive to send their donations to the Sheffield/Griffs families. I can provide the address, should you require it.

Why not release a balloon with HaLeigh's name written on it AND donate school supplies?

As for the balloon release only being a "moment in time", the family is asking everyone to take a picture of the balloons being launched, and then upload it into a public photobucket account. They are going to collect all of the pictures, and where the balloons are launched from. My hope for the family and HALEIGH is that the album is filled with balloons from all over the country. The photos can then be printed and it will be a MEMORY TO LAST A LIFETIME. Hopefully when HaLeigh comes HOME, she can see this album and see how many people supported her while she was gone.

Does this really have to be about Crystal OR Ron's activities? This is SUPPOSED to be about HaLeigh - not which parent you "support". It's ridiculous that people cannot get past their feelings for either parent and support an activity for HALEIGH on HER BIRTHDAY!

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but this article was just published today in regards to a Balloon Release that the families are putting together for Haleighs birthday. They're asking everyone to release balloons on August 17th at 2:16pm in honor of Haleighs birth time and birthday.

This has got to be the saddest most pitiful thing I have seen yet. This isn't about Ron or Crystal, it is about a missing 5 yr old little girl. Isn't the entire point to get her name out there in the media, to make people aware that Haleigh is missing and still is missing after 6 months. Why does this have to be turned into something ugly? The same people that have complained endlessly that Ron is doing nothing to bring awareness to Haleigh are now complaining about how he is bringing awareness to Haleigh being missing. He wanted something other than people just writing a check, he wanted something that everyone could participate in regardless of location or financial situation. Something that people would take a moment as they release that balloon to think about Haleigh, something that people all over the country would see a red or purple balloon floating in the sky and think about Haleigh.

I did not think the school supplies was a great idea because of financial situation for alot of people will make it impossible for them to participate, however I went ahead and sent a box of supplies to the school (shipping was almost as much as the dang supplies) because this is about Haleigh and I want the event to be a success and I figure the more people that participate the more of a success it will be. But me sending that box of supplies does not get Haleighs name noticed out in Kansas, but media announcing a balloon release and people going out and releasing a balloon does. It is something that people can physical do for just a couple dollars and spread awareness of Haleigh missing. I just don't understand why that is a bad thing, and the hatred towards Ron for wanting his daughters name out there.

It is the thought that counts....behind the idea. It is just that the plastic is very bad..Hope they change it and do something else. There has been big news (even yesterday) about plastic in the air and water.

There has now been an entire island composed of plastic sitting in the pacific. I am talking massive here, really huge. The mass of plastic in the Pacific is bigger than the State of Texas and growing every day. It is killing all the wildlife. Please ask Ron's friends and family to ask for another way.

I know balloons are so splashy and visual...I know that is why it was picked. Not many people are aware of that d@# plastic island.

I hope they reconsider. Maybe we could all carry candles outdoors or lighted neon sticks...IDK

I went to bed last night trying to figure out what I could do that would involve lots of people, cost next to nothing and people all over would be involved and no planet would be harmed in the making of this event. It came to me as I woke up. CHAIN LETTERS WITH HALEIGH'S FLYER AND INFORMATION AND A SHORT PLEAD FOR HELP!!!!!

I am afraid to post this, but it was HaLeigh's idea. She was sitting with me writing letters and stuffing envelopes.

I am going to send out as many letters to friends and people I know and along with a flyer. I will ask them for help in getting her face out there. I am going to ask them to make 11 copies of her flyer, mail out ten to friends and post the 11th one in a supermarket or Walmart or high traffic store.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.... I am going to write a letter and make copies of it so each person gets the 11 posters and 10 letters to go with the mailing or they may not do it. Some people may not have money to copy the letter and poster, some may not have the time or means to do it.

IF YOU HAVE A BETTER WAY TO GET THIS GOING, PLEASE POST IT AND LET'S DO THIS TOGETHER. I WILL BE MAILING ONE TO KATHI B. THE NEWS WOMAN I CONTACT.

I don't remember the old chain letters that we used to get, but I remember a list of names and we had to mail the letter to the people on the list....

I am also going to ask how you get a child's face in the advertising at local theaters. They run those adds non stop before you get to see the movie, maybe they would work with the National Missing Children foundation. Everyone goes to movies, just about....

These are large districts with alot of parent traffic coming in and out of about 40 schools total, they will not allow it as it could be upsetting to children to see a missing childs poster. In addition, they state once they allow that, then others want to post flyers for their cause. I was sitting there thinking this isn't a "cause" this is a missing five year old child.

I know, but lots of stores allow it, and I am going to keep those posters in my car, just in case. I am working on my "letter" today and will post it for others to read and copy or give suggestions. I think if we do something positive it will help. If we get others to help, it makes them feel good to help and cuts down on postage and copies too. Don't be discouraged, just keep plugging...

When I was teaching we had missing children posters on the bulletin board in the teachers' lounge. Teachers could see them, but children couldn't. I think it is a good idea.

Thats a good idea I will call them back and see if they will let me post in teachers lounge only. I was thinking of the exposure on the main bulletin boards there are soooo many adults in and out of those schools on a daily basis. But the lounge is a great idea. Thanks.

I think email is a great idea too!! I am only doing it this way, because, I know the people I am sending too, will want a hard copy in hand, or they will just forget about the email. If I send them this letter and her poster, and they have it sitting there on their counter or desk, it will prompt them to do something with it. Thank you for helping me. Internet is faster and more wide spread, but I want them to get off their chair and take that poster to a food store, Walmart or a telephone pole and post it. Even if they put it in their car window.....

How about saying "may be in any state" instead of "presumed out-of-State"?
Also, fix the spelling of "Cummings". Great idea!
