My father died from Cirrohsis of the Liver when he was 47, it was a very sad and hard thing too see. I was not very close with him until he got sick but I think we made our "Peace" and I am glad I was there. Addictions can rip a family apart and the innocent are usually left behind.
Awww, that's sad Michelle.
I'm glad you got the chance to make peace :)

Yes the plane would no doubt crash if I was on it as well. I need like 10 valiums to even get on one. I dont think that would even work. I need total control of myself so I can obsess the whole flight about everything, lol...

Today I was thinking of starting a thread about addictions, DH and I have this ongoing debate over giving addicts compassion. He has none for them, me I have witnessed it first hand and my heart does ache for an addict. Now I am not saying I dont get mad at the things they do but the addiction is sad. I dont know how to post a poll or I would start one.:waitasec:
I think starting a thread on addiction would be a great idea and one that has so many different aspects to it that they positions and opinions would be great fodder for debate, IMO.

I do hope Keith beats this things, he's a real talend on the country music scene and he's been crossing over to pop lately. I give him a big thumbs up for confronting this disease and doing something about it.

I agree that addicts deserve compassion. Addiction is just the absence of dealing with one's feelings and replacing it with some kind of abuse to temporarily numb you or distract you from your feelings. It can be anything from drugs and alcohol, to smoking, to shopping, to sex, to computers, etc. I don't think any addicts intend to become dishonorable members of our society... they just don't know, or haven't been taught, how to deal with their pain and their feelings effectively... so then reach out to the first thing they find that will numb the pain or anxiety or anger they are feeling. Here in America, IMO, we are becoming a nation of addicts. It's just that some addictions are considered more acceptable than others... shopping, for instance. It's all but encouraged, actually. But most shopping is not out of necessity... it's out of boredom or a need for a quick fix or high. We have so much "stuff" now that there's a cottage industry for clutter control and organization. But shopping addictions (again, one of the more "acceptable" of the addictions) can do almost as much damage to a family as the other more destructive ones.

So yes, I think a thread on addictions would be a good thing.

Does it matter??
You are the one that pointed out how hard it was to kick a coke habit, especially when you had the money to support the habit... I was merely pointing out what the article said. ;)

I don't get your point.
This is also what the article said:

<<Urban, who turns 39 on Oct. 26, has publicly acknowledged a former addiction to cocaine>>

Saw an article on CMT it is Booze this time. And for you felling sorry for Nicole she is standing next to him in the battle. That is what true Love is all about.I see Keith and Nicole fighting this one together. And having many good years of Marriage in it.

Addiction is a life long struggle, you never know when it's ugly head shows up again. I applaud him for recognizing his problem was coming back. That's 1/2 the battle.

Yes JDB, the article here says he went in for alcohol abuse, we've already established that.

And btw I'll feel sorry for whoever I like thanks.

Alcoholism or drug addiction does not make for "many good years of marriage"; it strains it considerably. It's his battle to fight, not hers, but it's admirable and will help him I'm sure if she supports him.

this doesn't surprise me....IF he's here in Nashville, i'd be willing to bet he's at Cumberland Heights..
Yes, that's where he is at.

I'm not sure but don't some people trade one addiction for another? When he kicked the coke habit it's possible when he felt stressed or whatever it is that cause people to abuse he started drinking.

I wish him well, as well as Nicole. I admire him for going ahead and getting help before it was too late for him and his marriage.

Hopefully, the support of his wife, along with his stint in rehab, will help him remain alcohol- and drug-free for the rest of his life. :)
