Wow, I was just wondering today what happened to these two girls and if the murder was ever solved. I remember reading about it a few years ago before the arrest and people were wondering what the heck happened. I guess the theory of a crazed individual with no "real" motive was correct... How senseless that he took these two precious girl's lives. It isn't fair and I pray for justice and some sort of peace for their families...

OKFUSKEE COUNTY, Oklahoma - An Okfuskee County judge has granted a motion by a man charged in the shooting deaths of two young girls near Weleetka and the death of his 23-year-old girlfriend to be tried for both crimes at the same time.
District Judge Lawrence Parish issued the ruling Wednesday in the case 27-year-old Kevin Sweat. Sweat faces three counts of first-degree murder for the July 2011 death of Ashley Taylor and the 2008 shooting deaths of 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker.
He has pleaded not guilty.
Parish ordered that the two cases be tried together starting Jan. 27, 2014, in Bristow.
Sweat asked that the cases be combined because Parish previously ruled that prosecutors could use evidence from the deaths of the two girls during Sweat's trial for Taylor's death.

Most of the cases on these forums involve sensless &/ tragic deaths, all are terribly sad, in particular this case has been on my mind since the first time I read about it. For some reason I was overwhelmed with sadness over the loss of two innocent children, I scoured the net for some news, any news... & it came...
I pictured the killer/s would be of some deranged appearance, & pictured in the papers is a person who could have been anyone's neighbor, friend, relative, brother.... the deranged, cold monster was/is within him.

I don't buy his "monster" theory, this theory came to him because he was finally caught. This maggot of a human being is cloaked in a bullet proof vest whilst being taken away, what protection did his victims have?
I am for the death penalty, yet in his case, I would like to see him sentenced to live in a cell until he rots, to face his 'peers' whilst he tells them all about his "monsters".
This might give some closure to the families involved, families of the victims which he has sentenced to a life of silent grief, his own parents & family which forever will be known & whispered as the "killers family", he and others like him are oblivious to the endless victims they leave behind, dead and alive.

Sorry for the long post, needed to share my feelings on a case that has left a profound sadness.

A forensic psychologist for the defense testified Tuesday that Kevin Sweat wasn't able to give a "knowing and intelligent" waiver of his Miranda rights before confessing to investigators that he shot two Weleetka girls and killed his fianceé.

In a pre-trial hearing in Okfuskee County court, forensic psychologist Bruce Frumkin told the court that he administered a "typical battery" of tests to determine if Sweat could have knowingly and intelligently waived his Miranda rights at the time of his 2011 interrogations. Frumkin said his answer was no.

"Things get jumbled up in his brain," Frumkin told the court.

Tuesday’s hearing was part of ongoing court proceedings to determine whether Judge Lawrence Parish will allow jurors to see those taped confessions at Sweat’s murder trial, scheduled to begin in August.
The pre-trial rehearing will resume March 26 after the state’s chosen psychologist examines Sweat and reports his findings to the court.

His testing revealed Sweat “misperceives and misprocesses things happening around him,” Frumkin said.
For example, when Frumkin questioned Sweat regarding why his recollection of the videotaped confessions varied from what really happened, he explained that law officers “put poison in his can of soda,” he told the court.

Psychologist finds no mental confusion in murder defendant Kevin Sweat

Dr. Shawn Roberson said he found no evidence of mental confusion as previously claimed by a psychologist testifying for the defense, that Sweat repeatedly refused to answer "very basic" questions about his personality that most criminal defendants will answer.

"I got the sense that he didn't want me to know a lot about him," Roberson testified, saying that Sweat commonly answered "not that I recall" to many of the questions.
