I read the sleeping bag but the article says a large piece of cloth. No estimated PMI so perhaps the original cloth was a sleeping bag? I've always known sleeping bags to have a water repellent outer fabric. As a seamstress/quilter, a water repellent outer layer would take longer to decompose than a cotton or even polyester/cotton fabric.
