KH's (alleged) email to co-workers

I must be the only one here who reads this e-mail message somewhat along the lines of "I know some of you know I am cheating on my wife and would I appreciate that you don't share that it with the media". Sorry, I am a little cynical - JMO

Wasn't the allegation that it was with a co-worker?

Wasn't the allegation that it was with a co-worker?

I think the allegation was that a reporter said that an unnamed source said that the landscaper said that Terri said that Kaine was having an extra-marital relationship, and the rumor was that it was with a co-worker.

According to sources, Terri Horman had talked to the landscaper about being in a bad marriage and had claimed that Kaine had "hurt" her emotionally by having an extra-marital relationship.

OK....that basically says it all....lol

But wait! If it is Intel's assurance and insistence that each employee's personal data is only to be collected, used, or disclosed at the employee's discretion, why would Kaine need to alert all employees in his group to keep quiet?

Maybe if LE told him not to leak any details not otherwise authorized, to the media, as it may compromise the investigation. makes sense to me.

IIRC, this was from a KGW article that got altered pretty quickly after it was published on-line. I specifically remember it saying that the landscaper claimed that Terri told him that Kaine was having an affair with a co-worker. But then KGW (99% sure it was them) edited that out. But I do remember reading it.

BTW: I'd also like to find the "missing" (at least I can't find it any more) SECOND KATU video of Kim Holm: The one where she says something like "by 9:10, 9:15 he was gone." This was additional footage that wasn't aired until after the flap about KATU not releasing video footage to LE without a subpoena. It was in a segment where KATU was explaining their policies about releasing video to LE, then they aired the new footage where Kim Holm says "9:10, 9:15" or something like that, and then KATU explained that they don't usually keep footage that doesn't make it on the air. Anyway, I watched the whole video online and the next day or so I couldn't find it on their site. Just seemed to go "poof" like lots of other things.

What I find interesting about that email is it does say not to talk to media. But, it doesn't say tell LE anything you think might help. That has always struck me.

It says three things, IMO:
1. Forward info about Kyron to as many people as you can.
2. Do not talk to the media.
3. Here's the police hotline if you have tips.

I see nothing weird about this. He seems to be an unemotional guy for the most part but he does not set off my hink. To me, it was either TH or a stranger or someone unrelated that Kyron knew. Kaine has never been on my list.

The LE asked him to come in because there is stuff (whoknowswhat) that doesn't add up, doesn't mesh; they need more from him.

IMO

This raises my hinky meter, but not for the same reasons as others. I've worked for large, security-minded companies like Intel. An email asking employees not to talk to the media would have been sent by legal or HR or someone else in charge, never by the employee. And Kaine wouldn't "be trying to contact Intel legal," he would have had their attention immediately. I think it's a hoax.

Also, per Intel's spokesperson (see link below), Intel informed its employees of the disappearance by posting it on the company's internal online newsletter. That conflicts with the purported email's reference to an article forwarded by "Becky".

-snip

(5) He's honcho enough to contact Intel's legal ???

Large companies such as Intel have policies that require employees to contact the legal department when anything happens that might bring the company name into the press, keep an employee from performing their job duties, when a laptop is seized and/or searched, etc. In fact they set up hotlines for employees to call and report these types of things.

Nope, you're not the only one.

That's a really good point, something I know day to day but darn--never even occurred to me!

BBM

He did not request that they not contact the media...He said not to say anything if contacted by the media. I just wonder why he would automatically think that the media might contact a co-worker, especially in such a security-tight environment? I don't know....it just sounds strange to me.

Plus to me, that was not a request...that was a demand "DO NOT TALK"....I'm with ya!

Apologies if this has been posted before.

In this (purported) email (which sounds to me pretty realistic) KH is telling co-workers to keep mum and that he intends to talk with Intel legal to get legal advice for them keeping quiet.

How did this email come out? That's the weird part to me. Did KH release it? Who released it, and to whom? Knowing that, I think, would be interesting...

It was posted on a law firm's site. I doubt it's a fake. Perhaps the person works for Intel, or knows someone who does, and received it.

Not saying it is a fake...by no means..but why this site...

I'm sure at the time that Kaine never imagined this would turn into a long-term thing...he must have been thinking Kyron would be located quickly and no need for all of his co-workers to be getting involved unless they somehow had information. He may have allowed the law firm to compose it and he just approved it. Who knows. It is weird but it does come off as something a law firm might come up with.

Yes, the Ackee law site. But...how did they get it?

I don't know if it's fake or not. But how this came into the public realm (and via a law firm at that) just makes me wonder a bit, you know?

I looked at the blog. The date on that blog entry is Jun 07, 2010. The date on the email composed by K. Horman is dated Sunday, June 06, 2010 8:39 AM.

They left off the TO: line :)

I don't see any indication as to who posts that blog.

Yes, Kaine is very chatty for someone who is accustomed to so much privacy. Thats why I find it unusual that he has shared so much, so often. He has shared things that I wouldn't want to talk about...such as his marriage, his wedding ring, his plans, etc. I think it odd to automatically tell everyone in your company to stay away from media questions and then hold open press conferences several times a week.

IMO, Context is everything. Especially with this e-mail.

The e-mail was at approximately 48 hours into the disappearance of Kaine's son. Kaine was arranging to be gone from work, and about a zillion other things. I'm impressed with his presence of mind, frankly.

The open press conferences began after week 3, after Kaine had a chance to work with LE, after Kaine got advice & support as an employee from Intel & Intel counsel, and after Kaine had learned his wife was not accounting for her time & whereabouts on June 4th to police, and about the murder-for-hire allegation, and after he fled his home in 15 minutes with his baby, filed for divorce and secured an RO against his wife.

There is a big difference between 48 hours and 21 days into a missing child investigation. In this case, Kaine and Desiree were gracious enough to hold pressers to try to answer questions they could for press & public who cared about Kyron.

To see Kaine share some more after moving back home - 6.5 weeks into search for his son - watch Kaine @ the Wall of Hope video interview from today. Also note what Kaine's not going to talk to media about at the wall of hope.

As I mentioned, IMO, context is everything.
