Kristen's Law - fluorescent green license plates for sex-offenders?

Ohio already has yellow tags for DUI'ers. Maybe that will make it more likely to pass this bill (re. the discrimination remark, and other objections)... plus apparently they think the tag-thing works, since they're already doing it with others. I'm not sure if I'm convinced yet that this is an effective way to deal with sex offenders, but at the very least it may get a discussion going.

You know, though - if I was parked at my kid's school, or the Y, or the park and I saw a car parked w/ green plates - I would be on the lookout and heightened alert.

W/o the plates, unless I remember the face from my searches of the S.O. registry, I wouldn't know.

Now, that doesn't mean that if I don't see green plates, I get to relax. Just that it would help.

OR - if a child is abducted in a car w/ green plates, the Amber Alert goes out, that car should be found immediately. Much easier to say green plates than late model blue Ford. (and much easier for the car-illiterate)

As far as switching plates, etc. even if it happens sometimes, it's worth the prevention in other cases. Plus, these guys are sick, deviant, criminal and unlikely to think things out all the way. Certainly they're not smart...

I do think that repeat molesters are smart in that crafty, cunning, sneaky way. They kind of have to be to survive in this world and keep on doing what they want to do. I really DO think that if one of them abducted a child for nefarious purposes, they would definitely think ahead enough to get rid of the green plates.

Not saying it's a bad idea - I just think there are lots of relatively easy ways around it and I do think these people have brains.

I think the smartest criminals are the ones that never get caught. It's mostly the dumb and the poor who are caught and convicted.

That being said, most LE will agree that sex offenders in particular are non-descript and operate in the shadows. I'm all for one more thing that gets them in the light w/ little tax burden.

Of course there are ways around it. And - most S.O.'s are content to prey on children in their own home rather than snatching kids off the street. Mom might think twice before letting her boyfriend sleep over when he pulls up in his car w/ the green plates. That's a much easier sign than trying to do a background check on your new boyfriend.

As some know my granddaughhter,husband,and 7yr.old live with me since my husband passed.Today while Amy was at work I recieved a call from Johnnys' school~a recording notifying parents that a "man" in a white car had tried to coax a student (a girl) into his car just a block from our house.The girl ran for it to the adult school guard who crosses children.The guard handled it,driver got away.Thank God the girl had sense to run!! I am so upset over this.I take Johnny to school when mom is working.I will keep an eye peeled for any white car with just a man driving.This is considered a "nice" area with families all around.I may just drive up and down the streets after I drop him off just in case.
