'A 37-year-old Topeka man is behind bars after being accused of kidnapping a 4-year-old girl and trying to drown her.'

It seems he took her into the yard of a private residence and held her under the water in their pool. Thank heavens someone saved her. He's been charged with attempted murder.

a girl was walking with a friend in the 1400 block of NE Quincy when Mahkuk approached, took her to a nearby yard and held her underwater in a swimming pool

I hope he rots. My question though, why was a 4 yr old outside walking with a "friend"? Where were her parents? I don't even let my 6 yr old play outside without supervision and I live on a military installation heavily fortified and guarded by MP's and Prison Guards.

Brian Mahkuk was sentenced to four years and nine months. The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to counts of attempted kidnapping and aggravated battery.
