This is local to me, though I’m not familiar with the area where he went missing. My first thoughts are medical emergency or self-harm.

I sure hope not, but right now I'm leaning in that direction also - especially after noticing some Twitter comments he made in April 2019 and then noticing elsewhere someone else's wedding only two weeks prior to him going missing (hope that is cryptic enough not to get this post deleted). Could he have been depressed?

His business, it seems he's a photographer, could he have jumped out of the car for a picture and something happened? Just throwing it out there. IMO

I’m sure you’ve done all the digging but it seems like ‘doing it in reverse’ means she moved on pretty quickly.

His posts on Twitter get a lot more weird and intense after he posts that he’s getting divorced.

Che Butterfield, 48, formerly of Joplin, Mo. and now a resident of Lenexa, Kan., was last seen Saturday, October 2, 2021, in North Kansas City near NW 68 and N Line Creek Trail.

Butterfield’s cell phone was found at his residence.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) have listed Butterfield on their website with details regarding his disappearance.

Wasn't there another case of a similar situation but his car was at a fast food place drive through, and he was later found several days later, unharmed? Never figured out what happened there. Maybe its the same thing?

The missing Lenexa man last seen Oct. 2 was found dead in a wooded area near his abandoned vehicle on Tuesday.

According to police, Butterfield had been dead for at least a week before his body was discovered by cadaver dogs.

Extremely unlikely. There are few snakes around here, why would the car be running, etc etc.

Plus the venomous snakes we do have wouldn’t kill someone instantly. He would have had plenty of time to get help, he wasn’t in a very remote area.

Maybe he got out the car to take a picture or to pee I checked re venomous snakes before I posted. They are around albeit not riddled with them. If he was wearing sandals it's a possibility. Wasn't he a transplant from elsewhere? He had no phone, too. I'm sure the PM will clear it up. Judging from some cryptic messages on SM, self harm is a possibility, too I guess.

I follow a few National snake bite experts on Facebook and you are correct, very few people drop dead. Anaphylactic shock to the venom would be about the only reason he wouldn’t have been able to seek help in time. Additionally the trauma at the bite site would be fairly easy to recognize. I suspect self harm, (I did read about a case where someone used a non North American viper to commit suicide, reaching into bag with venomous snake).

I agree that the law of averages suggest a snake bite pretty remote. But if we are going to provide anecdotal evidence of the viability of venomous snakes in certain areas I can tell you in Ontario where I live, there is only one venomous snake, the massasauga rattler, one of which I found sunning itself on the deck of our pool in the Muskoka area. I picked it up with a garden fork and moved it to a wood pile in the back forty. Just as my experience with a venomous snake doesn't reflect how many we have in Ontario, I would think you not seeing one in Kansas doesn't negate the possibility they are there.
