Kansas authorities need help identifying young man found near rest stop

GREENWOOD COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities in southeast Kansas need the public's help in identifying a young man with special needs who was found near a rest stop.

Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels said a rest stop custodian called 911 at around 6 a.m. Thursday after finding the young man near the Beaumont stop on Highway 400. He's about 6 feet tall, weighs 220 pounds, has brown hair and blue eyes. The sheriff said he may be autistic.

I am so mad this young man has not been identified yet. I pray he is identified soon and LE ensures he is safe wherever he goes.

Several situations like this recently -- a young man found in Las Vegas communicating with a tablet, the young man possibly from Kansas 'hitchhiking' in Oklahoma with a backpack of toys, now this one! :(

When I initially saw a Facebook post about this young man today, I thought it was the same one with the toys in the back pack, was that man ever identified?

Being found at a rest stop in such a rural area makes me think this young man was abandoned there by a family member or caretaker:(

The person was found around 6 am on US Highway 400 near the Beaumont rest area. Deputies say they had trouble identifying him because he can’t talk or write and also has special needs

The man’s name and age have not been released."

"GREENWOOD COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) Update, 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018

The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office says it's received information it "strongly believes" will help them identify the man found early Thursday morning near the Beaumont rest area on Highway 400 and be able to piece together why he wound up at that rest area.

"We want to thank everyone for their support on this case," the sheriff's office says."

I'll be interested hearing how a special needs young man ended up at a remote Kansas rest stop.
