KS KS - Jesse Lynn Crookston, 37, Saint Francis, 22 Nov 2020

The City of St. Francis

When you visit this page, it mentions the outdoors numerous times, so it makes sense Jesse would be there to hunt.

Cheyenne County and the City of St. Francis are must-see destinations that boast diverse outdoor recreation, numerous historical attractions, a vibrant and inviting main street, and small-town friendly dining opportunities.
Whether you are planning a sight-seeing or hunting trip or considering a move, St. Francis is “As Good As It Gets.” Nestled along the Republican River in the northwest corner of Kansas, St. Francis is easily accessible on US Highway 36 and Kansas Highway 27.

However, if he were last seen at 8:40 that night, I don’t see him going out to hunt at that time.
Questions:
1. What was Jesse doing up until he was last seen?
2. Who was he with or who was around that last saw him? 8:40 seem like a specific time; not 8:30 or a lil before 9...but 8:40.
3. Who reported him missing? If he was there for work/hunting and his family was in a different state, then who was the first to realize he was missing?
4. When was Jesse reported missing?

1. He was in Kansas hunting, he was supposed to be coming to Idaho on Wednesday, the 25th.
2. He was last seen on his security cameras at that time, he went into the house.
3&4. I reported him missing Monday morning. I was worried about him and hadn’t heard from him on Sunday.

@Jessesgirl I am so very, very sorry yall are going through this! My heart hurts for you and the rest of the family and friends.

So he wasn't seen on the security cameras coming out of the house? Was there another way out where he wouldn't have been seen on camera?

that’s correct, the cameras showed him going in Sunday night, but didn’t catch him going out. Turns out it’s possible to leave out the back door without setting off the cameras. His truck is still parked in full view of the cameras though, so he didn’t leave in it.

He works in Denver during the week and hunts in Kansas, and stays at his house there, many weekends. Hunting friends also frequently stayed there.
Was anyone scheduled to be there when he went missing? Only "friends" stay there? Meaning only people Jesse knows, or are friends allowed to invite guests he may not know.

What is outside the back door? I.E., Backyard backs up to fields, or river/creek? The cameras are motion activated, I take it? Sorry my only experience with cameras are the ones we have a work and they record continuously. Any suspicious vehicles caught on camera in the relevant time frame Jesse disappeared?

No one was scheduled to be there that weekend, that I know of. No other people were in any of the security videos.
I’m not sure if anyone has ever taken a guest Jesse didn’t know, but I’d guess not.

The house is on a regular block in town. It’s a corner lot and backs to an alley and there’s no fence. There are mainly just other houses around it. There are no suspicious vehicles in any of the videos. And yes, they are motion activated.

This is the worst mystery of all time. At least in my life.

I am so sorry you are living this nightmare!

I can't even imagine how life altering this is for you. Is LE making any progress?

Ok an alley with no fence. Are the trash cans in the alley way? Thinking of reasons he may have went out the back door? Heard a noise and went out to investigate?
Any crime in the area? Is anything missing from the house? Where are his cell phone and wallet? Was the back door found locked?

If you get tired of answering questions, just nudge me in a convo and I'll be quiet.

Are there any ponds or woods near the house?

Is his cell phone missing?

Thank you for answering our questions. Hopefully LE has talked to all the neighbors. Makes me wonder if some of the neighbors had people in town for Thanksgiving that would be strangers to Jesse.

LE is running down all the leads they get, but nothing has resulted in solid information about where he might be now.
Yes, trash can in the alley. In full view of the camera though. Same with most everything in the back yard.
There’s not much crime in the area. Nothing seems to be missing from the house.
Cell phone, keys and wallet in house. House was all locked up. There is a keypad on the front door.

Pretty certain there’s no pond or woods near the house. His cell phone is not missing. LE has talked to neighbors, and you’re right, there could have been extra people in town, for sure.

I too am so sorry you’re dealing with the unimaginable. Had he recently been “himself”? Is it a possibility his stress was so high from being away from you and working and friends that he just needed to take a breather somewhere? And I guess the obvious question, is there a way to get out of the house without being on camera and if so did he know that?

Cheyenne County -- St. Francis is by far its biggest town -- has, according to the last published census, a population of 2,726. On the west it's bordered by two Colorado counties; on its north by one in Nebraska. It has about the same number of ghost towns as towns. The last murder conviction in the county was in 2014 after a Bird City woman killed her former husband by hitting him in the head with a pipe.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. My thoughts are at this point the house has been cleared (he isn’t inside anywhere) so he either went out willingly or someone was in the house and forced him out IMO. LE will have asked neighbors for camera footage (I hope) and that may take a few days to gather and view. Were any guns missing?

continuing to hope He is found safe

Let's say that he left the house of his own accord. In what scenario would he have left the car and his belongings at home? First possibility, he just stepped outside. Second, he could have visited or met with someone living close by, a neighbor or a friend, or he could have gone for a walk/jog. Why use the back door? Why not take the phone? There are some possible explanations (e.g. it was closer, he didn't plan to be out for long). What happened after that?

Would he have to actively avoid the backyard camera not to be picked up by it, in separate scenarios that he left or stayed within the backyard?

If someone else was involved, coming from within the house or from the backyard, did they know about the cameras? How did they know they wouldn't be recorded? What would be the motive if nothing is missing?

It's really a mystery. I hope he is found well.
