Woman, daughter reported missing from Spearville home, KBI investigating

The Ford County Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s help in the search for a 31-year-old woman and her 4-year-old daughter, reported missing from their home in Spearville.

The sheriff’s office said a man reported to police Wednesday afternoon that his girlfriend and daughter were missing. The Ford County Sheriff’s Office said it requested the KBI’s assistance investigating the missing persons report involving Kayla Vazquez and Aalilyah Vazquez.

Kayla, 31, is described as having dark hair and hazel eyes, standing 5′5 and weighing about 200 pounds. Four-year-old Aalilyah is described as standing about 42 inches tall (3′6) and having brown hair and brown eyes.

Sheriff: SW Kansas woman, 4-year-old reported missing

Law enforcement authorities are investigating the disappearance of a Kansas woman and 4-year-old girl.

Just before 1:30p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to 203 West Avenue B in Spearville, according to a media release from the Ford County Sheriff's Department. A man at the residence told deputies his girlfriend 31-year-old Kayla Vasquez and daughter 4-year-old Aalilyah were missing.

Man arrested after bodies of missing mother, daughter found in Ford County

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), and the Ford County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the murders of a mother and daughter from Spearville, Kansas.

On Wednesday, June 15, at approximately 1:20 p.m., the Ford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 203 W. Avenue B, in Spearville. Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Spearville Police Department spoke to a male subject who reported that his girlfriend and daughter were missing.

While they were inside the home, law enforcement officers noticed evidence that a crime had occurred in the residence. The man, identified as Michael A. Peterson, 31, of Spearville, was detained for questioning.

Just before 4 p.m., the Ford County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded to the scene to investigate.

KBI agents and deputies from the Ford County Sheriff’s Office began an extensive search for 31-year-old Kayla Vasquez and 4-year-old Aalilyah Vasquez. They were later assisted by the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, June 16, at approximately 4:15 a.m., authorities located the body of Kayla Vasquez in rural Ford County. Then at around 5:40 a.m., the body of Aalilyah Vasquez was discovered in Kinsley. Autopsies will be conducted.

At approximately 7:35 a.m. Thursday, Peterson was arrested for capital murder connected to the deaths of Kayla and Aalilyah Vasquez.

No threat to the public is believed to exist related to this incident.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME, or the Ford County Sheriff’s Office at 620-227-4501.

The investigation is ongoing.

FORD COUNTY, Kan. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old man faces capital murder charges after his missing girlfriend and 4-year-old daughter were found dead in two different cities.

According to the Ford County Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, June 15, deputies went to 203 W. Avenue B in Spearville because a man said the two women, 31-year-old Kayla Vasquez and 4-year-old Aaliyah Vasquez, were missing.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation identified the man who called as Michael Peterson. According to the KBI's statement, while inside the home, Ford County deputies reportedly "noticed evidence that a crime had occurred in the residence" and took Peterson in for questioning.

The Sheriff's Office then called in the KBI for assistance in helping locate Kayla and Aaliyah. The two law enforcement agencies also worked with the Edwards County Sheriff's Office in the search.

According to the KBI, on June 16 at 4:15 a.m., officials found Kayla's body in rural Ford County. Over an hour later, at 5:50 a.m., Aaliyah's body was recovered in Kinsley.

Peterson was arrested for murder at 7:35 a.m. for two counts of capital murder.

I will never understand how these perps think murder is a better solution to an issue than literally any other option. I guess I'm happy I don't have the ability to understand it, but damn this needs to stop! Jmo
