Thursday, January 15th:
*Competency Hearing (@ 1:30pm CT) – KS - Nancy Thode (72) found dead in her home at about 6pm June 29, 2024 in Olathe. *Brian Christopher Thode (40/now 41) [son] arrested (6/29/24) & charged (7/2/24) with 1 count of 1st degree murder (unlawfully, feloniously, intentionally & with premeditation) & 2 counts of animal cruelty {unlawfully, knowingly, maliciously & feloniously killed a cat & a bird in the home). Bond is $3M. Johnson County
Found incompetent on 12/18/24.
Judge Neil B. Foth presiding. DA Mendenhall & Zadina & Apperson & defense attorney Carl E. Cornwell, public defender.

8/20/25 Update: Preliminary hearing has been reset on 11/19/25 @ 10am via Zoom per Judge Neil B. Foth. 11/19/25 Update: Minutes Entry. State by Apperson, defendant in custody, refuses to leave cell & appear. Cornwell appears for defendant. Evaluation finds defendant competent. Defense counsel has concerns. Set for competency hearing on 1/15/26 @ 1:30pm with Judge Neil Foth presiding. Defendant ordered to appear in person.
