More than 100 searchers scoured a Leavenworth County cow pasture Tuesday afternoon to investigate a report that a missing Olathe woman had been taken there.

Firefighters and law enforcement officers spent three hours in the field west of Leavenworth pacing at arm's length from each other looking for Patricia Hicks. They left at 4:15 p.m. without saying whether they had found the 37-year-old woman.

Gary Hicks was charged this morning with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in the drowning death of his estranged wife, Patricia Hicks.

The charges were filed in Leavenworth County District Court a week after Hicks, 36, cut his wrists in a Johnson County jail. The Lansing man was previously charged in Johnson County with making criminal threats against his estranged wife and her nephew.

Gary L. Hicks chose to forgo a trial and pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in the death of his estranged wife.

How sad. Sounds like another jerk that wouldn't let go. Probably another control freak. I wonder if they have any kids.

Yes, they have kids. The articles made mention to with him pleading guilty, the family was releived that the couples children would not have to testify in a jury trial.
