Sedgwick County property owners who were camping out near a creek on their land have found a human skull that may have been there for several years.

An Anthropology professor from Wichita State University has been called out to perform a search of the area, and investigate the remains.

Hinshaw says there are still trying to determine the gender and age of the individual, and how long the bones been there.

and let's not forget Adam Hermann. If I recall correctly, his foster parents lived in more than one county that neighbors Sedgwick, and thought I read in the paper that they made reference to nobody ever will find him...? I will look for a link and return if I find it--otherwise, just consider it speculation...

Here is a local and better link for the information about this find. As far as the Adam H. case, the location is close to 30 miles or more away from any of the areas where his family had residences. Their residences were in Butler and Harvey counties to the north and east of Sedgwick county. This area is far into the southwest corner of Sedgwick county. All of these counties cover fairly large geographical areas. Also, depending on what is meant by "many years" in terms of the anthropologist being brought in......this is an area that was highly traveled by Native American groups up through the mid 1800's or later.

Here is some additional info on this UID.

An anthropologist at WSU has examined the skull and believes it could have been sitting on the creek bank for up to 15 years.

"His preliminary findings show that it is a black female of African-American decent, from the ages of 18-25 years-old," McLaurian explained.

no missing persons reports from the Wichita area match that description. the sheriff's department has contacted other law enforcement agencies across the Midwest, searching for any other clues.

"Right now, we're trying to determine who the person is," McLaurian said. "That's why we're trying to reach out to the public once again for their help."

Circumstances of Recovery In rural Sedgwick County, a track excavator/shovel was in operation excavating the bed/channel of Sand Creek around the site where the cranium was recovered. Based on the location and appearance of the remains, it was discerned that the skull more likely travelled to the location of its discovery by water movement rather than having been buried or place at this location. On 05/13/2011, a follow-up survey of the location was conducted which resulted in the discovery of a human long bone (femur).
