Fran, not sure where in Kansas Kingman is but having lived in SW Missouri in farm country, it was normal for us to leave keys in the vehicles. I definitely don't where I am now, but it was a habit for many years.

He picks on Firemen because they are dedicated to putting out fires and saving lives whereas our lil pyro likes to blow torch the carp out of everything.

Reason he got rid of both was to protect personal information. The reasoning behind it was the same, the reason I torched the hard drive is because someone could plug in a hard drive. Destroying a cell phone isn't the same thing.
KBI was eventually able to obtain info from the cell phones.
Needed overhead projector for magnifying glass (why not just buy a magnifying glass).
Magnifying glass was 5" big.

The reason he needed the MG is he was researching a fraud thing -- trying to simulate how easy it was to forge social security cards. He forged 1/2 a social security card.
He has a fascination with identify theft. I find it very interesting that people know so little about it, but it's one of the biggest crimes in America. I read about 30 pages of a book about it. Yes, as it was explained to me, as the book was given to me, it was written by the Catch me if you Can guy.
V kept a journal. Knew where she kept it (bedside table). Had access to it. Had possession of it prior to death. Took the journal to KLETC to make scans of some of the pages and copies (printed off digital images). V had been pushing for keepsakes, so she wanted copies of the journal and photos (LOL). I don't remember what I told agent V., but I wanted to put journal in the safe, but V wanted to be able to get access to it without having to access the safe - so he made a copy for her (what a nice guy).
Pros asking about his expando file he has with him. Are they to refresh your memory, or is this your script.
It's for times - I don't remember times. That's it.
But he does have times remembered from the dispatch log (shocker)
Moving on late the night of the 29th -- interview with agent Valletti.
He fed the dogs shortly before midnight. Outside, in the garage, shortly before midnight. Then changed his story, he fed the dog while V was having a cigarette. No, I wssn't in my garage on the 29th. He did get a shovel earlier, and maybe a wheelbarrow. The last time he was in the garage was around 9:00 or 9:15. This is where the gas cans are.
Fast forward to 4/30 early AM. He's only wearing pants, no socks, no shoes, no shirt. Runs upstairs (around 15 yards up the stairs and 15-20 feet down the hallway to the bed). He scaled that distance in 8 seconds (would be about right).
He told the agent the floor was on fire? He said he never said the bedroom floor was on fire (before asking what floor). The bed was on fire. He doesn't seem to remember much of his interview and is skirting the Pros. questions.
He stepped through fire to get to V who was on the bed, and on her back. The covers were on fire (based on his deduction that he didn't see her legs or feet). He tried to pick her up. But that part of the bed was not on fire.
I leaned over the side of the bed, using my left arm, to grab her right shoulder, and that's the area I grabbed. I pulled. I pulled her up, and that's when I saw the blood on her face. She rocked up, and as I pulled her toward me, she's limp, so I dropped her, so I just LET HER GO. there was blood everywhere.
I called 911 while I was still outside. I entered through the back door of the house. I get all the way upstairs and encountered smoke (no flames). But he said told 2 agents he encountered flames and smoke.
He goes downstairs, turned the water on, grabbed the washcloth, and cell phone is at his ear. Ran upstairs, dishcloth over his mouth, cellphone to his ear (LOL). Then says he isn't really talking to 911 (is his shoulder hurting by now holding that cell phone to his ear if he's using his shoulder).
He's having trouble breathing at this point. It was very hard to breathe, he yelled, or screamed, or something, but he couldn't take a breath in. But he told the agent he did take a deep breath.
It was also pitch black at this time. The hallway light was on, but either the light shorted out, or it was smoke.
He fell to his hands and knees (with cell phone and towel). How are you talking to 911 then? He doesn't think he was holding the phone to his ear at that point.
When he got back outside, he called his parents. Sgt. Sowers then arrived and yelled something.
Never had the keys to the VW. But left the keys to the truck (because he always do).

Well, maam, there were a lot of details -- taking longer than an hour. I was very upset, and to get every detail in there would have been impossible.

He respected his parents so much that he attempted to retirn the PU with a full tank of gas he bought that day from Casey's but then he leaves the keys in the ignition in case any one wants to go for a joy ride in it.
