I'm quite allergic to those. :D
 For reals, or just playing? Cause if you do have a latex allergy, you're avoiding the foods and stuff that can also cause you problems, right? (I think it's bananas with latex but am unsure, going to look it up and will edit.) ETA: Yeah, see? So, if you are, please, please be careful?

ROFL, she might be implying that she's allergic to what's inside the latex. :blushing:

Not really allergic *that* way. I just don't care for them. I'd be interested in the latex info though...I can google it though.

Oh, see I was right, Taximom's allergic to what goes inside the condoms. :innocent:

I usually take up for kids accused at school, but I agree with this one. It's probably because I've had a kid do something similar to me with moldy fruit knowing how allergic I am.

I think 8th grade boys are very immature and don't realize the true consequences from doing something like this. He may come from one of those families that thinks anyone with peanut allergies is just making it up. (My sis goes through this!) I think it's harsh. I totally agree with education, punishment, apology and community service.

I hope that other boy will be o.k.

I completely agree with you Taxi. I highly doubt this boy was trying to harm or kill the other boy. It sounds like he was just being immature and targeting someone "different."

I too know folks who roll their eyes when they hear about peanut allergies. Luckily, people are gaining more understanding of how serious they are.

Unfortunately in the world we live in today others are unwilling to make small sacrifices such as something as minor as not bringing peanut butter to school. Believe me if it was your child with a peanut allergy you would be singing a different song...

I do agree with you that this other child knew what he was doing...

It's not just peanut butter..peanut oil is used in all kinds of snacks and stuff. If my kid could DIE from a peanut allergy, *I* would be responsible for him. Like I said..I wouldn't expect the entire world to change for my kid. I certainly wouldn't trust the school system and every other child that attends parent's with my child's life.

Peanut oil isn't as big a worry as other peanut stuff. It is peanut protein that is the problem, and *usually* (as I am given to comprehend) peanut oil is filtered and safe.

Thanks but you don't have to educate me on whether it is peanut butter, oil, etc. I certainly don't trust other children's parents to make the right decisions for my child. Sometimes, though just a little education and consideration for those who have severe allergies is appreciated. Allienating these children is NOT the answer. As I stated before your attitude would be different if it was your child with a peanut allergy. My guess is that you would be the one at the front of the line demanding changes...

Have a great night.

When my daughter was in public school she had a classmate with peanut allergies. The school stopped allowing pb&j sandwiches and all other peanut products during lunch and snack time. I was so angry that because of one child (and yes, she was the ONLY child in the entire school) everyone else had to do without. Her mother was a terrible person too so that made it all the worse.
This little girl is now 12 years old and seems to have "outgrown" her allergies to peanuts.
Crazy and I am guessing liars as well.

If your child could DIE from something that is served every single day at an institution, you do not send your child there and expect everyone else to change! You teach your kid what they can or cannot eat and go from there, or teach your child at home.

I would never expect others to protect my child. That is my job. I would show them the dangers but I would not expect the entire school to give up something they love just because my child could not eat it.

 It says they are cherry-flavored on the box. :waitasec:
*explodes while trying to curb her naughty, naughty tongue* Er, they can "acquire" a cherry flavor too, I guess? :slap: *RUNS AWAY FAST*:angel:

I don't understand all the anger towards peanut allergy kids in this thread. The original post was about a kid who deliberately gave a potentially deadly poison to a classmate, not about the rights of kids in general to be able to eat peanut products at school.

You win. I'm not touching that one.

Hubby would prefer you wouldn't.

Hmmm...I'm reading in one post that peanut oil is considered safe. I would have to disagree having a daughter who only has to smell peanuts or the oil to have a serious reaction. She does not even have to be near it so it seems the molecules are in the air and she breathes it in that way.

This is attempted murder, imo, since it was widely known about the girl's allergies.

Sewing Deb, I've read the same thing, about peanut oil being safe, and I questioned it, too.
