HARLAN, Ky. —

Kentucky State Police say they are investigating a decomposed body found in the basement of a home that authorities believe has been abandoned for about six years.

A State Police news release says the body was discovered Friday in Harlan when the home’s owner was cleaning the place up and saw that the basement door had been disturbed.

Police say the body appears to fit the description of a missing person case from December 2018 that the Harlan Police Department has been investigating.

Due to decomposition, the body will go to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

Police say the cause of death and identification are still unconfirmed and the process may take a few days until dental records are checked.

Hopefully so. It's time to let this UID rest in peace at his/her home locale near loved ones. If it's Mr. Middleton, I wonder whether his flashlight was near the body? Perhaps he was looking for something in the abandoned home and was injured.

On his thread it says he struggled with drugs. If this is him then I suspect he might have gone there to do some drugs and overdosed in the basement. I hope his family soon has closure.

MOO.

I read that and absolutely agree. That's the more common scenario we read about and is much more likelier to happen than some random scavenger hunt accident I suggested. I'm just sick of the needless deaths (violent and not) in our world. In some strange way accidents tend to soften the blow of sudden,
unexpected deaths. I hope there's a quick ID so this family can continue on in their attempts to heal from the loss of a loved one.

This guy was identified this summer. Can a mod move this to "Identified?" Is that still how things work? My computer broke and I've had internet issues once I got a replacement so I haven't really been on here in ages.
