i think the truth that everyone is tiptoeing around here,, and in the media,, is that this woman is mentally retarded. and judging by the boyfriend's photo, he doesn't look quite all there either. but, here in the most powerful country in the world, we don't want to restrict anyone's freedoms or hurt anyone's feelings so we can't tie her tubes. apparently it's more "ethical" to just let her keep churning out "developmentally disabled" babies just so they can die or be taken by our already overburdened foster care system!

that being said... i don't think they're retarded enough to not qualify for the DP.. they knew what they were doing!
In the surveilence video she was driving the stolen car. I don't know if a retarded person can pass a drivers test. ?? And I was wondering why he wasn't driving so she could take care of the baby. Seems like he would have wanted to drive just cause he is a guy and that's the way they are.

Hi SewingDeb,:)
Very good post.Thank-you.
Respectfully,

Thank you, dark_shadows. Prayers have been answered and baby Saige has been found safe. I am so happy to wake up to that good news!

We may not ever hear, but I hope it is the foster family who has raised him since he was a newborn who will be adopting Saige.

Parents have a lot of rights when their children are removed from their custody, including a trial, visitation, and a reasonable ammount of time allowed for them to recover or change their behaviors.
well, in my opinion when you have 1 child who died suddenly and 4 others who have been removed for you custody b/c of neglegt (she was letting 1 kid eat cat food & had a filthy house) then your rights really should be of no concern.

I am not sure if she was full blown mentally retarded, but she obviously has some learning disabilities. Unfortunately she still knew how to have sex though.

Something tells me her defense attorney will try and get her declared mentally incompetent to stand trial.

I am tired of the mental health advocates thinking mentally challenged people still have the same child bearing/rearing rights as everyone else. A good perventage of children killed are killed from a mentally ill or unstable parent.

It's time to start protecting these innocent kids.

Yes, it was the best possible ending to the search for the 3.

No weapons found with them, and they'd run out of food and money. I can't help but feel sorry for these two "adults" but now they will have to face the legal consequences of their actions, including murder or manslaughter.

It's possible that the publicity will be a positive factor in the immediate attention given to Saige and a possible adoption.

what will happen is the lawyer will put it all off on the boyfriend and she will probaly be out and having more kids in no time.

I am not sure what you mean by feel sorry for them. The only ones I feel sorry for in this case is Saige, Boni and Boni's family who will not have her this holiday season. she may be a little simple but she was smart enough to be planning this for a week.

I can't speak for LP but I can say these two "adults" deserve sympathy as well.
Both are mentally retarded.
It appears they have no family looking out for them and DCF's involvement only pertained to taking away the children when in fact their services do extend to assisting the disabled and elderly.
More often then not when those that are mentally retarded do not have family to protect and care for them they wind up in low income areas are are used and exposed to things that even those with normal brain function and intelligence can't deal with.

This situation is sad for everyone involved and could have been prevented if our coutry placed a higher emphasis on making sure that disabled people were cared for.

The only thing said about her is that she was disabled. i may have missed it, but I didn't rememebr seeing anywhere in any of the stories that she was retarded. Disabled could mean a variety of things. I may have over looked it as i said, but I never saw any proof of her being retarded.

Well I think one would have to be a little off to lose all of their kids involuntarily and then stoop to this level to try and keep Saige.

Just home from lunch but it sounds like they've been apprehended. Baby in hospital but sounds like just to check over.

OK.... in this case "disabled" is mediaspeak for retarded. and in the article it says she doesn't work, and is described as a simple, "goofy" person, "like a kid". and just look at her photo, and the one of the boyfriend-- his expression is especially vacant. i don't think there's anyone home there at all. and the fact that her child is retarded.. and think about what they did.. these are not sophisticated minds we're dealing with here. they ran and didn't even try to hide themselves. so,, all signs point to it. so,, my question is,, why is a woman who is retarded allowed to breed indicriminately while her offspring ends up also retarded and is taken away because she is unable to know how to raise a child properly, or they are allowed to "die in their crib",, and.. did someone mention feeding her kids cat food?? whether someone is mentally disabled, retarded, whatever you want to call it, or mentally normal but a bad mother-- either way- come on,, tie her d*mn tubes already!!

See, why I wonder about the term disabled is b/c where i live if you are overweight you are disabled. my husbands aunt is overweight and gets a disability check while a friens of mine's mother had 2 strokes about a year ago and was denied disability so I never know what to think of it. Seems like anymore if you have hemmoroids then you are considered disabled.

Two comments here - I have 3 bulging disks in my lower back and do physical work and no one has offered me disability though I haven't ask either. They just say it would be good to find another line of work but sitting is as bad maybe worse if I hunch which I tend to do.

When I was in Jr High (middle school these days) my Mom worked with a woman who had a retarded daughter (O2 compromised at birth). She was functioning enough to work and even got married to retarded man (about the same level of handicap) but when she got interested in this man, her parents I THINK had to talk to her Doctor and then go to court to allow them to have her tubes tied or historectomy. Don't remember WHICH surgery she had, but they couldn't just do it on their own without an ok. Wasn't hard to get the ok, but it did have to go through a strcit process. Oh yeah and SHE was ok with it as well, it wasn't something forced on her. She was functional enough to understand that having a child might be something beyond her scope of capabilities.

But it seems like if this couple are mentally handicapped to any significant degree, someone along the way messed up by not pursuing this option. And when she was "mass producing" babies and one died, why did no one look into the situation then? So many opportunities to have corrected a bad situation which escalated into a poor loving woman losing her life.

Terrell, 33, told U.S. Magistrate Judge Donald Wilkerson at the hearing that she was a widow and high school graduate who attended four years of college. Luttrell, 23, who choked back tears moments after being led into court in leg and arm shackles, said he had a high school equivalency diploma and could read "a little."

it sounds like her life took a wrong turn at some point. I'm sure the tears are only b/c they got caught.
