KY - Bonnie, 45, & son Leon Porter, 28, killed each other, Louisville, 5 July 2007

From the video, it seems the mother did care for her son throught him losing jobs, etc. He always had a place to go. But I think she was also afraid of him, which is why she slept with a gun. Myself, if I feared my child that much, he would NOT be in my home. The story also said he had a long history of mental illness, yet she didn't abandon him.
A kid doesn't need to come from a crackwhore mother for the child to turn on them and kill them. We have a thread now about a 12 y/o girl killing her mother and brother. There also have been thread in the past of upper/upper middle class kids killing their parents who were not mentally ill.
Bottom line...WTH is wrong with these kids!? Things have certainly changed a LOT. Back in my day I wouldn't even think about raising my voice to my Mother!
nor did i ..

WT he*l is wrong with people?
Mothers and sons killing each other. Husbands and boyfriends killing pregnant women............something in today's society is messed up.

The 2 common things are air and water. That is what WE all breath and drink .

I think it is the water & pollution that is causing all these problems in the world today.

Do we actually know what is used in water to make it ok to drink? Or healthy ? :waitasec:

What are all the pollutants we put into the air actually doing to us?

The world is crazier then it has ever been so it has to be something that is common to all.

that's my :twocents: and I'm sticking to it :blushing:

There may be truth in that. I also think the world is a smaller place because of the media and communication technology. We are hearing about things we'd never have known about before the internet. We don't live in our local bubbles anymore...we're exposed to the oceans.

Much true admiration from me for your sacrifice; this will redound to your son by your example and he'll be doubly better for it. Great job!

Been there and done that too. It's NOT easy, especially doing it alone, but at 21 & 19 the most trouble my sons have been in is a traffic ticket. So good parenting DOES pay off. I consider myself blessed.

I actually agree. I believe that all the chemicals, man made materials, and things that may have been tested and exposed to us, such as micoplasms could make some people develop physical illnesses and make some who are unbalanced go even more violently insane.

My theory is that when women began going to work and not staying home with their kids, things changed.

Also not being allowed as parents to discipline our children in the same manner our parents diciplined us. Children no longer have respect for their parents like we did growing up.

What about all the violence in video games and on television? No more wholesome television shows like "I Love Lucy" etc.

Let's include taking God out of the schools too!

I also raised two children on my own. All I ever heard was how old fashion I was, and living in the past.

Both of them are grown, and college graduates. They both have a different perspective on their "old fashion" upbringing, and am grateful for me being such a strict old nag during their younger years.

I must also include all these young women getting pregnant without a husband in their life. Years ago, if you got pregnant and you weren't married you were sent away to a home to have the child, and give it up for adoption.

I miss the old days when life was much simpler, and void of all the violence and hate in the world.

Our society has lost all moral values!

Me too.
Here in Australia if you have a baby the government gives you $7,000.00 I think that is the right amount, to get everything you need to provide your baby with the things it needs, prams, cribs, baby car seats, etc, you wanna see how many young mothers we have here who are having babies just to get the money, they are as young as 15, 16 years old. Instead of buying for the babies they are buying Plasma TV's and the latest video game equipment, it was the worse move the government made. Plus you get family benefit payments every fortnight, it starts at about $56.00 for one child and goes up for every child after that, we have so many single young mums here in our little town alone, I feel for the kids as they were not brought into this world because a loving couple wanted a baby, they wanted the money to spend on themselves.

I too agree with much of what Tsunami said. But, I disagree with the violence on TV, video, etc.

To be quite honest, I didn't sensor much of what my kids watched/played and they've turned out to be fine young adults (18, 21 and 25) who are responsible, respectable and mature. My oldest loves playing video games - the more violent the better. In 2 weeks he will be taking an exam to join the CA highway patrol. He believes in law and order... not kill em', butcher em', maim em'.

I firmly believe it's the attitudes you are raised with, the kind of supportive, loving parent, that influences the way you grow up. Blaming external things, such as TV, media, video games, doesn't cut it for me.

In a rare moment we agree!

I was thinking the same thing.

I tend to think it took two to tango and a mother who raised a person like that was just as guilty.

OH my God, why is the mother always to blame?

I think you misinterpreted my point.
We are not here discussing YOUR son shooting you.
There is a huge difference between being disappointed in your child at times and a situtation like this worthy of Jerry Springer.

NO I do not know that... I have yet to meet anyone who has disproved my theory.
"their very best?"
my crack 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 mother did her very best too ...
I am sorry to be rude but as a parent "their very best" needs to be THE best.
Not some lame exuse.
Not being always proud of your child is a far cry from killing someone.

no it wasnt about me ... all i was doing was saying that it may have not been the mothers fault .

I would agree with you under different circumstances but them having 2 guns in the house and being at the point that they both shot each other makes me think that some serious long term deep seeded issues were at play here.

I live outside Louisville. This kind of thing is always happening here, Louisville is NOT a very safe city anymore, and I am going to move soon.
