Now Chicago...

As a decision on charges in the Breonna Taylor case is expected to be announced soon, Chicago is among several cities across the country preparing for unrest.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker both stated that the Illinois National Guard is prepared to take action if needed.

While many organizations are calling for peaceful demonstrations regardless of the decision, officials in both Louisville and Chicago are prepared for potential violent unrest.

Chicago prepares for unrest as decision in Breonna Taylor case nears

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said that he had not authorized the state's National Guard to respond to potential protests in Louisville but added that he would do so "if it is needed."

@dctello

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron will be announcing the decision in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Breonna Taylor by Louisville police at 1:30 p.m. in Frankfort

@Kimmer
Stay safe
I hope it’s calm.

Kentucky State Police cars and orange cones were already blocking off the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort, where the decision was expected to be announced at about 1:30 p.m.

The museum announced it was closed for the day, and workers there said an event had been planned.

The Wesley Center Day School, in Frankfort, told parents it would be closing early on Wednesday after it "received word" Cameron's decision in the case would be made at a nearby history center.

One more person who won't get justice. She died in her home, doing nothing to anybody and after watching her tv with her boyfriend. She was struck between 5 and 8 times. Got no help to stanch her blood from flowing from her body. She died alone not knowing what she was being shot for.

I hope people unhappy about this don't use this as an excuse for violence.You can make changes through the legal venues instead of destroying property and hurting innocent people.

  • 1:35 p.m. - AG Daniel Cameron explains charges. He says Sgt. Mattingly and Detective Cosgrove were justified in their shooting. The one fatal shot that struck Breonna came from Cosgrove.
  • 1:15 p.m. - INDICTMENT: Former LMPD officer Brett Hankison indicted on three counts of wanton endangerment connected to the night Breonna Taylor died. A warrant will be issued for his arrest and his bond was set at $15,000 cash.
  • No one is charged in Taylor's killing.

What a shame. Praying for peace.

In a tweet released shortly after the jury’s decision was made public, Civil Rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who represents the Taylor family, called the charges “outrageous and offensive.”

One Officer Charged in the Shooting of Breonna Taylor

Protesters in Louisville have already begun marching in response to the charges.

The AG did an amazing job at the PC. It was clear that it was difficult for him.

Interesting reporter questions---

NYTimes? related to neighbors not hearing the officers announcing but one person (according to the AG) said they heard the announcement.

?s about the bullets and the inability to determine which bullets came from which gun. That is surprising to me.

Need some time to re-group. Sadness for the family of Ms. Taylor. They must be angry and confused at this point.

This may not come out as intended....but, why did they file any charges at all? I mean if no charges for murdering Breonna (say her name) - this is like a total slap in the face. It's like saying you deserved to die while sleeping, but sorry we endangered your neighbors. SMH Praying for Peace....
They filed based on the findings of the Grand Jury.

I don't think they can do otherwise, can they?

Interesting to hear that the cops did knock and announce themselves before entering as corroborated by an independent witness. I didn't know that.

Ex-officer Brett Hankison indicted in connection with Breonna Taylor's death

The other two officers -- Sgt. John Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove -- were not charged following months of demonstrations. Kentucky's Attorney General Daniel Cameron told reporters Wednesday that the officers were "justified in their use of force."
"The decision before my office is not to decide if the loss of Breonna Taylor's life was a tragedy," he said. "The answer to that question is unequivocally yes."

Keeping the gender and race make-up of the grand jury a secret (along with not releasing the files-- with the caveat that there were criminal charges pending) is going to create a further division that possibly race factored into the grand jury decision. It is a shame to sow even the hint that the grand jurors could be biased. JMHO.
