Just want to say thank you to jULIA_bEE and other local folks for the excellent, accurate, detailed info provided that relates to this case. From vids of the relevant section of the Parkway and pics of its darkness at night, to info about the official handling of abandoned cars in KY, to police presence (or not) on the parkway during holiday weekends, to the info about other unsolved murders in the area... all the clarifying info is much appreciated.

You're welcome :) and thank you! I like reading everyone's theories and insights. That's really nice of you!

Yeah. I think statement analysis is pretty much psuedo-science, but I think at its core, it teaches some good lessons about veracity.

Like Schoolgirl Shamus said: in the NG interview he "skates over" blocks of time. Also, he said he assumed she went to her cousin's house, bc that's where she goes when they have a fight. Not-- she sometimes spends the night for fun, or just 'cuz.

He never mentioned a fight. So why would she go there?

JMHO, as always

I agree. Every thing is very convenient for him. He answers with an overwhelming amount of information when it benefits him and where he was at a certain time. Her car is conveniently between the bardstown exit and the exit she could take to get to her cousins house. I've been in plenty of dysfunctional relationships but if the person I was living with disappeared for a whole day I would be very concerned. The least I would do is answer the phone if the parents called me. They wouldn't have to chase me down to get answers. I wish I knew how long it takes the crime lab to get results. I know they're usually pretty overwhelmed.

I wish we knew some of the "tips" or leads that have been called in. Surely someone has thought about the $71K. I''m also interested in property owned by BH family that might be close by but not in Nelson Co. Does any exist? If he is guilty, I think he took her somewhere familiar to him.

I know they've searched some surrounding counties like Larue and Hardin and Washington. I think there was another but now I can't remember for sure. If BH did it, he sounds pretty confident which leads me to believe she's either pretty far or hidden extremely well. I don't think they've checked Jefferson Memorial Forest but it's pretty big and it's not far at all...

Hummm now that's strange. I thought all along they only had the little guy with them.
Me too, and I can't believe I only just noticed that while re-reading the transcript.

It's hard to believe he misspoke somehow, or misunderstood, because the context is clear. NG asked him unambiguously how many children Crystal had with her when she came home, and he said two. He even added that the other two were dropped off at their dad's earlier. Presumably he omitted the fifth child because she lives elsewhere permanently, so it was the norm for her not to come home with Crystal.

But what about this other child? Why is it never mentioned by Brooks again, either as being at home, in attendance at an event, or being dropped off?

If he wants to clear his name so badly, perhaps he can answer some basic questions about his own timeline. Is there a go-get-em kind of reporter down that way who might be interested in pursuing these points? We could draw up a list of questions for BH, to help out. Might be pointless, but just a thought.

I'm very surprised NG did not ask about a fight. Or ask him to clarify about how many children were with them, 1 or 2.

BBM: This from the Nancy Grace transcript. http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1507/08/ng.01.html Crystal's mom explains where all the children were:

GRACE: First of all, our prayers are going up ever since we heard about her missing, and we are all hoping and praying for her return. I want to start with you, Ms. Ballard. When did you first learn she`s missing?

S. BALLARD: Friday, her granddaughter contacted me and said she couldn`t get in touch with her. So I texted my daughter and just told her that her daughter was trying to get in touch with her and to call her. I think that was around 6:00 maybe. Around 9:30 maybe, Kylie texted me back and said she still hadn`t heard from her mother, so I started calling around to people that I think she would have talked to --

GRACE: Was that abnormal? Was that unusual, Ms. Ballard, for her not to have texted back?

S. BALLARD: Right at that moment, I didn`t pay real big attention. A little bit, not a lot, because the kids were -- her oldest daughter that lived there with her was at her grandmother`s. The two, the younger two was at their dad`s, and she just had the baby there at home. It was July 4th weekend. I thought maybe she had plans and maybe didn`t get to her phone. But then when I started calling everybody and nobody had heard from her, that was sort of unusual.

GRACE: When you say you started contacting everybody and no one had heard from her, who did you contact?

S. BALLARD: I called my mother, because she`s real close with her. I called my younger daughter. I called my sister-in-law, Barbara, and I don`t remember if I -- I think that`s all I called. I called Sabrina, my niece.

GRACE: And Ms. Ballard, with me is Tommy and Sherry Ballard. This is Crystal`s mom and dad. When did it hit you she`s missing?

S. BALLARD: It really hit me Sunday. My daughter texted me back or called me and asked me, she said, have you heard from Crystal yet? I said no, I said, you haven`t heard from her? She said no. And so I called my mom back and other people, and they hadn`t heard from her. And I told my husband, I said, that`s just not right.

GRACE: How often do you normally talk to her?

S. BALLARD: During the week, at least probably every other day, if not every day because the kids, like her older daughter lives with me, so we`re constantly in contact. Not as much on the weekends.

Hummm now that's strange. I thought all along they only had the little guy with them.

As I recall;

One girl was with the maternal grandma.
One girl was with the paternal grandma and was calling maternal grandma about 6 cause she could not reach her mother.

BTW one of the girls had the injured hand from BK

Another girl and boy, the ones with her at Walmart had been dropped off at their dad's house.

Just Crystal and the little guy returned home.

Confusing...yes!

I bet she stopped and picked up something for dinner. I don't think she cooked after all of that shopping, dropping off kids at dad's house and showing property.

MOO
That's my understanding, as well. I was confused about how many kids were home until I read Crystal's mother's statement to NG. Two kids staying with their dad. One daughter was visiting paternal grandparents, and another daughter lives with Crystal's parents.

ETA: Here's your post with the NG transcript where Mrs. Ballard says only the baby was home.

Oops...sorry, karenky. Didn't see you'd just posted the same transcript.

I read in a few posts about how dark the highway would have been. Remember that July 2nd was a full moon, so the next couple of nights the sky would have been a bit brighter due to the moon phase.

Still trying to catch up on this thread....the car on the side of the road was too set up IMO

Hi flipflop
Bessie and Tssiemer are both correct ~
I know for CERTAIN that it was very dark and cloudy here with rain and storms off and on both Thursday and Friday. July (2-3) Even the 4th of July started out dark with hit and miss rain early. It did clear up by the afternoon though. No full moon for us! Unfortunately for the search efforts, it has rained here for most of the entire month of July.

ETA ~~~~ oops, sorry Bessie. I didn't read down far enough

I have finally caught up on reading this whole thread. This case caught my eye as we stopped in E-town for the night on July 4th before ending up in Nashville for vacation. I heard mention of this case on the news while in the area.

A few things that I wonder about....
-Why didn't CR's mom contact BH when looking for CR? She mentions other family members but not BH?
-For such a large family that BH has, who else witnessed CR being at the farm on the evening of July 3rd?
-BH mentions 2 kids at home, CR's mom mentions just the baby???
-The car seems too set up....There is no way a woman would leave her cell phone when stranded on any road, even if someone approached in another car, a cell phone is your lifeline!
-What the heck did they have for dinner???? That convo was beyond weird!
-I wish BH would do more interviews!!!

I don't get confused often so maybe I am reading into this transcript too much? I think I know the dynamics of the family and this conversation but if someone not following the story that closely and were to read these transcripts, it can get confusing. At the start NG introduces CR's parents using their full names Sh--- B. and To--- B. and then the transcript says...

S. BALLARD: Friday, her granddaughter contacted me and said she couldn`t get in touch with her.

Now is this SB person CR's mom or is it the niece of the mom/cousin of CR?? Or did CR's oldest daughter have a child making CR a grandmother? Because when she says on Friday her granddaughter contacted her, is she referring to CR's mom's granddaughter, CR's granddaughter or was she meaning to say "my" granddaughter or meaning to say her "daughter" and not granddaughter? Or was SB stating HER granddaughter meaning Sh--- B's granddaughter? All depending on who this SB person talking is? I assume this SB is suppose to be the same person as in the start of the interview because she states...

"So I texted my daughter and just told her that her daughter was trying to get in touch with her and to call her."

But I now think there is a 2nd SB in the interview, the mom and Ms B. So confusing thanks to NG.
Then what is this line?

GRACE: And Ms. Ballard, with me is Tommy and Sherry Ballard. This is Crystal`s mom and dad. When did it hit you she`s missing?

Is NG telling Ms. B that also on the line are CR's parents TB and SB? And I thought for sure I knew there was only 2 ppl involved in this conversation with NG...this makes it sounds like there are 3...so weird...thanks NG haha

So in summary I know that NG was talking to Ms.B, SB and TB and it sounds like CR's oldest daughter lived with her mom but was staying at the grandmother's that wknd but then SB then says the oldest daughter lives with her. Again, a little confusing how these ppl talk.

S. BALLARD: Right at that moment, I didn`t pay real big attention. A little bit, not a lot, because the kids were -- her oldest daughter that lived there with her was at her grandmother`s.

Was SB making this comment or does this sound like this is a comment referring to SB? Because then SB says the oldest daughter lives with HER.

S. BALLARD: During the week, at least probably every other day, if not every day because the kids, like her older daughter lives with me, so we`re constantly in contact. Not as much on the weekends.

Lastly what is up with this??

GRACE: You know, interesting, to Tommy and Sherry Ballard, when she was spotted that afternoon at Walmart, was she with anyone?

S. BALLARD: She had her two children with her.

GRACE: And where did they go that evening? Did they go with her to the apartment or did they, what?

S. BALLARD: She took her -- she took the kids to their dad`s house, to an apartment where they lived. They were spending their weekend with their dad.

GRACE: And then --

S. BALLARD: She may have had the baby with her, I`m not sure.

T. BALLARD: We really don`t know.

GRACE: So the Walmart video she revealed who was with her, but you believe she had two children with her. She was not in the company of someone else, correct?

S. BALLARD: No. Just her and the kids. She may have had the baby with her, I`m not sure.

GRACE: Now, who has the baby tonight?

T. BALLARD: The dad. Her boyfriend.

Wow...so first they say CR was with her 2 children at Walmart, then they say CR was with 2 children and MAYBE her baby but they are not sure...have SB and TB not talked with the 2 grandchildren in question to ask who was with them and her mother at Walmart, if their baby brother was also there or not?

I know this has much to do with nothing and apologize for the rant but it also gives a little insight as to how difficult it must be to investigate a complex case like this with half-brothers and sisters, multiple parents/guardians involved, how facts are told in confusing ways and at the time very little clarification or questions asked if answers seem muddled.

Ya this is funny. We all know in most cases we all get our phone messages, our texts, our vm's and choose to screen them and decide when a good time is to answer back or answer the next attempt to be reached. Avoiding the EX, your employer calling you in for a shift, a friend wanting to go out but you're not up to it and don't have a good excuse yet. BH made himself available come Sunday because if he is guilty of something, he wanted to get his facts straight and he wanted more time to finish ditching the car. He knows CR apparently took off by early morning and he has no idea where she is so when he sees her parents calling him, he knows darn well what they are going to ask him and this call will not benefit him so lets wait another 18 - 24 hours to talk to them.

I had to watch the interview because I kept reading the transcripts and there was just so much going on- especially NG's interview with BH.
