The ole flat tire story, woman alone off the highway flat tire, her phone is dead too, husband at home with the kids. Welp it is better than "she went out for a jog and didn't come back" or "she went for a walk".

First things first, was the tire organically flat or are we talking stab wound.

The tire still had part of a nail in it.

Looks like the boyfriend/common-law husband ran for sheriff recently, if you look at Crystal's FB cover photo folder.

I just do not understand the mindset there. If you are concerned enough for your personal safety that you would say that to your family - then why remain in that house with him? I understand the victim mindset but, if you're now to mentally cowed to tell your family something like that, why would you stay? So sad...

Respectfully, I think that's inaccurate. Clearly, her boyfriend "missed" her when he got up the next morning and she was not there. And, most guys would find a very young child tiring, so there is another curious thing, that he apparently didn't feel the need to try and reach her (that we know of). Curiosity number three is that this candidate for Sheriff not only didn't report his child's mother missing, he did not go with her mother to report her missing either. Mr. Houck is definitely wearing a black hat in my mind.

Apparently it was organic. The way I interpreted was that there was a nail in the tire and it had finally worn enough of it that it started to go flat. I've had nails in my tires before that went unnoticed until it would start leaking. It was usually on my jeep though and the tires were bigger so it almost acted as a plug...until it didn't. I think something happened on the way back from the party. I also think there's probably another person involved IF BH did it. I would love for him to not have anything to do with her disappearance because nobody wants to think about someone being that close doing something so heinous. However, I'm not a fan of the alternative either. I don't like the thought of someone up and down the bluegrass highway abducting women from the side of the road.

Reminds me of the Chuck Rutherford and Lana Stempien case that happened here in Michigan back around 2005. They went boating up the Great lakes and she ended up getting mysteriously killed and the boyfriend is still missing. She was reported to have said the same thing. If something happens to her, look at Chuck.

He says the witnesses he spoke to told him the comment was made in a Detroit bar a few months before Lana disappeared and was prompted by a television story about the murder of Laci Peterson.

Jarvis: They did not believe she was joking. She seemed very nervous after making that statement.

That is something that never dawned on me! I think your absolutely right. :bow:
Running over a nail is something you (hardly) ever even know. It obviously was a slow leak, since
LE actually saw or found out the nail was still in place.

I don't necessarily agree about another "woman" being his accomplice though. IMO women are just a little too chatty...
But I do agree he had to have some help though, I just think it was another man that he TRUSTED.

Not all women are chatty. I know plenty of chatty ladies, but I am a vault, myself. If one of these other women he seemed to be introducing into the situation is desperately in love with Houcks and this is her big chance to be with him, wild horses might not drag it out of her. To quote Richard Castle, "if I were writing the story" the other woman might be pregnant and willing to do ANYTHING to have Houcks all to herself. Including helping him get rid of Crystal. Or, she might have been the planner. Women are capable of that. If he's really stupid, as some suggested he seems to be, she might have told him how to get rid of Crystal. Just a few months ago, when Erin Corwin went missing, many were convinced his wife was the ring leader in that murder. Just a thought...

Are you wondering if the flat might have been created when the car was dumped? I believe I heard that the rim was damaged, which suggests it was driven some distance with a flat. But, to answer your question, tire air is under pressure. I doubt most people could just rare back and stab a screwdriver into the tire tread. The side, maybe. I think even a knife would be tough to do through the tread and if you screw it up, you'll probably cut the crap out of your hand. Way easier to just wedge a nail under the tire and let her back or drive over it. Then, as someone suggested earlier, just follow her around and wait for the flat.

Depending on how deep a nail is, it can take days for it to go flat. Essentially, it acts kind of like a plug and usually it's a fairly slow leak. On top of that, nails don't always even puncture the tire enough for it to go flat. I'd imagine she drove over a nail prior without even realizing it. At least, that's the way the investigators made it seem when they pointed out that the nail was pretty worn. If it were in the sidewall, it would be a little more suspicious because those tend to deflate the tire a lot quicker. I don't think anyone intentionally tried to puncture her tire.

One has to assume that if a guy was capable of killing the mother of his child, leaving his child sleeping alone while he disposed of her body. Was the car large enough to hold a moped? Did he have access to one? If so, you do not have to assume an accomplice. I don't think a bicycle would work for a getaway vehicle on a freeway unless the car was left near an exit. Which leads to another scenario. Was it close to an exit near a truck stop or gas station where she might have walked to get help that was the opposite of helpful?

Unfortunately for the searches, Kentucky has a LOT of rain almost the entire week since Crystal went missing. I know it poured down rain for sure all day on Tuesday the 7th, because I was in Elizabethtown. Off and on storms afterwards.
We had a lot of rain and flooding again yesterday and today, and we're in for more flooding and storms tonight.

Mattingly, a sergeant with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, beat candidate Brooks Houck with more than 77 percent of the vote. The unofficial results were 3,712 to 551. Kenny Downs, who filed for the Sheriff’s Office but later withdrew, although his name remained on the ballot, garnered 547 votes.

Houck is a real estate agent who owns two businesses, Houck Rentals and Select Quality Homes.

That is a very good point. On the 4th he apparently took his son to a get together, but now I'm wondering :/ However I'm sure police confirmed he is ok. Wonder if they were able to ask him any questions. I'm sure daddy coached him on what to say.

Very true and good point!

I'm thinking the scenario that was discussed upthread is the most likely, that the flat was an unplanned event for the perp trying to get rid of the car.

It's kind of stuck between two exits. I'm not real sure what's off the new haven/Boston exit because I've never taken it- it would've been an exit up in the direction she was going. An exit east of her, the opposite direction, would be bardstown/hodgenville. That bardstown exit has gas stations off of it but if it were real late at night or real early morning, I wouldn't want to particularly walk to either one. I would say both of them are at least 4 miles away, give or take a couple.
