Just received this text from Sherry Ballard on news of the human remains NOT belonging to her daughter Crystal Rogers...
“I honestly don’t know how to feel or react about the news on the human remains. Of course I’m upset that it isn’t my daughter, but at the same time i am relieved. As a mother, in my heart I truly never felt like this was my daughter. This was my hope though of finally bringing my daughter home and now i am back to square one of not knowing where my daughters remains are located. I will never lose hope though in finding my daughter.”

I wonder if they were able to estimate how long they’d been there. I mean... they have to belong to somebody. That has to be so disheartening for the family.

I can't imagine how her family feels. And my goodness, who is this poor unknown person who lost their life? Unbelievable that there is yet another victim that may be attached to this story.

Oh that is sad news! I thought maybe the Ballard family would get some relief in knowing where Crystal is....
Thank you for that update @karenky !

Nelson County Kentucky Sherriff press release.

Nelson County Sheriff's Office, KY

Press Release
Date: November 20, 2020
Re: Human Remains located on July 24th, 2020

Today, we received word from the FBI that the human remains, which were located at the Washington County/Nelson County line were not those of Crystal Rogers. Just like our community we were hopeful it would assist in answers and closure in Crystal Rogers case. The remains were processed through CODIS, which stands for the Combined DNA Index System. The case remains open as the human remains are unidentified at time.
The FBI is continuing to investigate the Crystal Roger’s case. The results on the human remains does not change their investigation or drive to bring closure and justice for the Ballard family and the citizens of Nelson County.
We will continue to work with the FBI and assist with anything that is needed. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office will continue to be the lead agency on the human remains case. Captain Brandon Bryan is the lead investigator on the case.
We want to thank the FBI for their assistance and teamwork over the last 18 plus months.

I'm now thinking those remains could be 100 years old for all anyone knows. Jmo

I may be a bit late to the party but here's my initial thoughts. Nick Houck is connected to all of the cases in varying degrees. The murder of Tommy and Jason both have a similar militaristic MO but other than the nuisance factor of Tommy and the fact he was considering running for sheriff its hard to see why he was killed. In short, I think there may be some drug related criminal activity in the Police dept. and that Nick, Brook and possibly others may be involved in. Pure speculation on my part.

I find similarities in our LE not finding Melanie Flynn (Bluegrass Conspiracy) over many years and now even traces of her remains, IF any are even around to be found at this point in time. Every single time things ramped up and a team has gone out to certain locations, they get busy, local new reports whatever, the search continues for a few days or maybe a couple of weeks THEN suddenly all goes deathly quiet.... like a search never started. The family never gives up hoping but her parents are elderly now and probably won't ever know. She has 2 brothers. I'm sure they continue hoping for something but clearly see what happens at every turn which is a BIG ZERO. So very sad. Such a nice family, I think of them often.

I can't find a thread for her. Do we have one?

Did they (LE) ever say "who" they found if it wasn't Crystal?

TIA!

In a word, "No."

"Now that the remains have been confirmed not to belong to Rogers that aspect of the investigation reverts to the sheriff’s office. Capt. Brandon Bryan is the lead investigator on the case. On Friday, Bryan said he was not aware of any current open missing persons’ cases the sheriff’s office was investigating. The discovery of the remains and the FBI’s takeover of the case just days later had caused many to speculate the two were connected."
