A shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, Saturday night left at least two people dead and another four injured, according to police.

Louisville deputy police chief Paul Humphrey said at a news conference the four injured victims were rushed to the hospital and that one was in critical condition.

The shooting occurred at Chickasaw Park, where the suspect began shooting into the crowd.

Humphrey said police currently have no witnesses to the shooting, but that hundreds of people were in the park at the time of the incident.

Mayor Craig Greenberg called for the people to put down their guns saying, "It wasn’t just Monday's shooting. Wasn’t just todays shooting. There were several other shootings in between. We lost more lives in between Monday's mass shooting and tonight’s. Please, put your weapons down. There are so many ways to resolve disputes, to talk to one another. Gun violence is not the solution to anything. Please put your weapons down."

The shooting broke out at 9 p.m. in Chickasaw Park, LMPD assistant chief Lt. Paul Humphrey said.

The mass shooting is the third for the city this week.

“I’m so tired of this. I can’t make any sense of it,” Metro Councilwoman Donna Purvis said Saturday night. “Right now, I’m really at a loss for words.”

Louisville community rallies around each other after Chickasaw Park Shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Walking through Chickasaw Park Wednesday, you may have come across a crowd of more than 100, taking a 54-second moment of silence. They did so for the 54 lives Louisville has lost in 2023, as of Monday.

Now, as of Wednesday, the number of homicide victims has risen to 55.

"One thing about the Black community, we're never broke," Will Pitts, CEO of Millennium Enterprise Foundation, said. "This is us. You know, we wouldn't be here if we didn't believe in us."

Ron Jones, from the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, said "there is nothing like the Black community."

"We will get together and, we will survive," Jones said. The organization hosted the event.
