I very much respect and appreciate that when Sheila McCoy arrived on scene behind Chief McCoy, he immediately said, “no video” (or something like that) and she immediately moved her camera so the remains were no longer visible. These are classy folks to have working on your case.

I apologize this is not specifically on topic.

WYMT-TV is reporting that the state medical examiner has confirmed that the cause of death was a wound consistent with a self inflicted gunshot to the head.

Positive identification still has not been made on the body that was found near I-75, and the state medical examiner said that a deeper test will be conducted after the results of a soft tissue DNA test were inconclusive.

@nerosleuth Thx for posting this. :)

Does it seem unusual to anyone else that positive ID could not be made w remains of suspected shooter w DNA test the med examiner conducted?
It's only been, what, presumably 12 days, of decomposition?

Just found these articles by googling. Not sure if any will explain why a soft tissue test result was inconclusive or why a bone test is better.
Maybe someone here can enlighten us?

... the day before finding the body, in another video, they showed the area of rugged terrain near the interstate where they think Couch fired at cars, hitting 12 and injuring five people.

Trees are cut down in the area, and Fred wonders if Couch cut the trees down to improve his view of the interstate, or if police cut them down during the manhunt.

Not to be graphic, but depending on the location he shot himself in the head, he may have damaged a lot of his teeth

The caliber of the gun would play a role too

Also, since the upper body was missing, I'm thinking his head may have been so mutilated but parts of his skull were retrieved showing the evidence of the bullet wound.

Gov. Andy Beshear has confirmed a body found in Laurel County has been positively identified as Joseph Couch.

The governor’s office confirmed Friday that Kentucky’s chief medical examiner Dr. William Ralston and the state police crime lab have confirmed the identity using DNA extracted from bone.

A tiny bit off topic here, but does Fred and Shelia McCoy bear any familial relation to the McCoy family in the famed Hatfield-McCoy dispute?

I still wonder if the saying 'the real McCoy' originated out of that feud.
