UNSOLVED KY - Jefferson Co., Skeletal Remains near Lake Louisvilla, Mar'15

As per Tulessa's breaking news post, UID has now been identified as Charles Murphy, 26, of Stearns.

http://www.wymt.com/content/news/Remains-found-in-McCreary-County-indentified-375050891.html

She's talking about a different set of remains. Those were identified, but they're in a different part of the state (in SE Kentucky near the TN border).

These remains were found in Jefferson Co and/or Louisville, kind of in the north-central part of the state.

The area where these remains were found was a once semi-rural area outside of Louisville. Now, it seems like the area has mostly been developed into nearly identical (yet very ritzy and perhaps a bit "snobbish" and gated - you know what I'm talking about) subdivisions. At least what I've seen of that part of Jefferson County.

As I understood the investigation, the old man disposed of her body. His son killed her. The old man was so demented by the time police questioned him he could not remember much about anything, let alone where in Kentucky he buried a body a decade earlier, especially after road construction had been going on through the area for several years. The elder March was in his 80's when police were questioning him.

But he was still getting up in years, or at the very least wasn't a "spring chicken" at the time of the murder. That's why I don't think he would have driven all the way to Louisville.

There are so many rural areas (i.e. "good dumping spots") that he would have had to have passed long before he made it to Louisville. So he would have had to have made it that far north, then navigate through Louisville and the then semi-rural area on its east end. With his dead daughter-in-law in the car with him...

That would make sense if we knew that he had good knowledge of Louisville, its "suburbs" or whether the family had nearby property or the like. But I don't know that he did.

Thanks for the update, so these remains are still not identified after all?!

It's not the entire body, but there are several bones,” said Sgt. Emily McKinley with LMPD’s Homicide Unit. “They were in close proximity of the skull.”

Investigators aren't done trying to unearth answers about who that person was and how he or she died.

The bones will now go to a forensic anthropologist in Tennessee.

“At that point, we'd be able to determine sex, race, and possibly a method of how they died,” McKinley stated. She explained those things will take several months to determine and cause of death will be extremely difficult.

“We'll look for any defects on bones, and we'll have to go from there,” McKinley said.

Investigators also hope to use DNA analysis to identify the person. The working theory is they may be dealing with a missing person. McKinley said DNA from a lot of missing persons or their family members was already entered into the system. DNA turnaround is at least six months.

“We believe that the person has been deceased for at least five years, possibly longer, so we have reviewed cases from that time period,” McKinley stated. Police will continue to do that.

She acknowledged the case is anything but typical for LMPD’s Homicide Unit.

I haven't seen anything in the local (Louisville area) news about an identification. But I know that this isn't the one that Tulessa mentioned (Charles Murphy).

I did a search and saw that there's no NamUS profile for these remains. Was one ever created?

But something in your link from the first post gave me an idea that I'm trying to check out...
"(There was) nothing obvious that I saw that would suggest it was a homicide," Kessinger said.

Kessinger added that investigators will contact to the property owners to try to learn more about the history of the land.

"There's all kinds of possibilities," he said. "It could be an unmarked graveyard."

I'm kind of fascinated by geography. I don't know if that's the best way to describe what I'm talking about, but I could read maps before I could read any of the actual words that were on them.
I think what sparked my interest in maps was a decent-sized reservoir being built near my hometown. There were places I'd been that were now underwater. Roads I'd been down were rerouted, bisected, eliminated, etc. I wanted to see what things "used to" look like before construction/etc changed things.

Anyway... the older "official" county maps in KY actually had most/all houses, churches, cemeteries, water towers, hospitals, distilleries, etc. marked on them. I am now going over the 1937 Jefferson County map and the 1941 Oldham County (where the actual lake was) map to see if there was a cemetery nearby. Though that wouldn't necessarily show truly "unmarked" graveyards. ...Unless just the stones were moved à la Poltergeist.

There's not really a lake at Lake Louisvilla today. The neighborhood/community was developed in the 1920's and was centered around a (man-made) lake and straddled the Jefferson/Oldham border. I think it functioned as a refuge for people that lived in "Louisville" (which I take to be what we'd call downtown Louisville today). The lake itself was taken away (dam removed?) in the late 1980's

Here's something from 3/30, so I am pretty sure it's still a UID case.

Human remains found at Lake Louisvilla still puzzle investigators

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Human remains found in Louisville a year ago still haven't been identified.

Last March, a skull, bones and hair were discovered in the Lake Louisvilla area, a rural area of eastern Jefferson County near the Oldham County line. Police didn't know the gender, race or identity of the person.

As I recall, the old man said he drove into Kentucky about 2-3 hours then dumped the body. I personally believe those remains could be Janet's if the 7-15 year time line holds true. JMHO. Maybe I just want it to be her for her parents and children's sake.

Still unidentified?

Still unidentified?
This is a good video from the time 2015, they will send the DNA to Tennessee, other than that- cannot seem to find an update applicable to this case.
It seems there have been a number of uid bones found, some identified, some not, it is easy to get mixed up trying to figure out which is which.
Will keep looking, thanks for the reminder.

LMPD discover additional human remains around Lake Louisvilla
March 12, 2015 rbbm
"(WHAS 11)--The search for human remains has ended in an eastern Jefferson County neighborhood this week, after construction crews discovered a human skull there Monday.

Louisville Metro Police confirmed new findings of bones last night, but would only say they are human. They spent the last few days in the Lake Louisvilla neighborhood, off Spring Drive, searching for further clues as to who the person might be or how they died. It's believed the bones date back anywhere from 7 to 15 years ago.

Neighbors are mixed on why they ended up here. Some say it could have come from a nearby cemetery or family plot, while others believe it to be the result of a crime. Lance Redmon says this remote area of town is often used as a dumping ground
that most people would not visit unless they had a specific reason."

Thank you @dotr !! Yah... I couldn’t find anything that I was certain pertained to these particular bones so I thought I better ask.

So sad. I certainly don’t wish them to be those of another unidentified decedent but I also hope they’re not the earthly remains of someone who has already been laid to rest. :(
