On Friday, March 13, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) issued an IAN alert for Jenny Din, a 9-year-old girl who is autistic and non-verbal. The alert system is specifically for missing children under the age of 18 with autism or mental illness who are in potential danger.

Din was last seen walking on MacIntosh Lane in Florence at approximately 5 p.m. local time on Friday, the Boone County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) said in a news release shared on Facebook.

  • Din, 9, who is non-verbal and has autism, was last seen wearing a mint-blue jacket, pink headphones and no shoes

BCSO Lt. Anthony Theetge said that Din’s family believes she may have gone to a “warm, contained area” and they are asking people to “check anywhere someone may be looking to get warm,”

"We are going to be relying on the people who not only know the community but they know their own lay of the land. They know their own property. I know last night I harped on getting into your cars, checking your cars, checking your truck beds, cars that you feel have sat for a while and that you didn't really feel were warm and a safe place. Check them anyway. Check your sheds, check under your decks. If there is a little bit of a culvert under your front porch check that for us, we are asking you to look anywhere and everywhere that a young child may have looked to get some kind of shelter and safety," Theetge said.

Her last name is spelled "Dim" here. I've read people who know her say her last name is Dim as well. Not sure which is correct as Boones county Sheriff's office has it still spelled "Din" Boone County Sheriff's Office, KY

***Update***

The mutual aid command center for the continued search for 9-year-old Jenny Din has reassembled. If able bodied volunteers wish to assist, they are asked to meet at Oakbrook Swim Club, 6940 Oakbrook Dr. in Florence, at 12:00 (Noon) for instructions. This portion of the search will begin at 12:30pm and will last until approximately 5:00pm. In addition to the Boone County resources that have previously been utilized, the Cambell County LandSAR team will again be assisting along with the addition of the Hamilton County SAR team.

As of this update, the total search has covered 2 square miles by ground, approximately 7 or 8 miles by air through drones and Kentucky State Police’s helicopter, as well as 7 additional ground miles tracked by law enforcement K-9s.

I’m glad they are asking for volunteers because one of the articles listed they had suspended the search at 5:00 am this morning. Thanks for the update @Unalienable Rights . With no shoes the little one is especially vulnerable to the weather. I sure hope they find her quick. I said a little prayer just now.

Sgt. Anthony Theetge of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office asked people in the area to check inside cars, truck beds, sheds, under decks and beneath porches.
“We are asking you to look anywhere and everywhere that a young child may have looked to get some kind of shelter and safety,” Theetge told Cincinnati television station WLWT Saturday
