From the OP
The boyfriend reportedly walked down a trial, and when he came back his girlfriend, 40-year-old Jessica Burk, was gone.
After searching for her for five hours, he finally called police.
Police got there around 8:30 p.m. that night and found no trace of Burk using dogs, personnel and an infrared helicopter.
Officials are questioning the boyfriend and currently trying to get in touch with the Burk's family. They added that the boyfriend was familiar with area, but it was Burk's first time there.
Burk, who goes by Angel, is described as having brown eyes and brown hair. She is 5’4” and weighs 120 pounds. She was last seen wearing a long white fuzzy coat. black jogging pants with red stripe, black boots and glasses.
SUSPICIOUS!!!

Oh boy. I hope they find her.

Not enough information to know if there could be foul play or not.

I hope LE is making sure she even entered the woods with him that day. I would start there. If they can prove she went into the woods then I would wonder why it took so long before he called for help. Five hours is a long time to look by yourself and it was getting dark by then.

I could see her getting lost if the woods was deep rough woods and there was not a well defined trail. The terrain where he says they were at last should help investigators.

She looks younger than 40 to me and he looks young. The age being reported be incorrect.
Hope she's found but this sounds shady to me.

That is good police work so far and thats how it should be done.

A little OT but its bugging me.
The exact opposite happened in Deorr case.
The Deorr case blew it right at the beginning because I always felt they just believed what they were being told and never seriously questioned the parents hard enough right at the beginning.

By the time LE started to doubt their story they had too much time to get their stories in sync.

These days you have to question everyone carefully right at the beginning when they claim things happened. Its the best chance to see if someone is not telling the truth.

We are up to 30 threads on the poor little boys case and nobody knows where he is.

The picture of Jessica in the first post - is that from a cracked phone, or a snapshot of a picture in a broken frame?

If I had to guess it looks like a cracked phone picture to me.

From this same link as my first post, I found this too, toward the bottom, which I had missed on my first reading.

"Authorities say she does have a history of depression, and she recently suffered a brain injury..."

Not sure how that will factor in to her disappearance, if it all, but I felt it only fair to mention it.

A benefit of the doubt for her boyfriend...

Just in case...

A brain injury could be a slight concussion- which also begs the question- why would you take someone with a recent brain injury hiking, and how in God's name do you lose her so fast on a trail, if you are walking together? Especially if you know she's had a recent brain injury- you would all the more stay by that person's side, in case they got dizzy, blurry vision, a headache, nauseous, or passed out!

wow, I was reading somewhere else a day or 2 ago and came across this guy's pic. I can't recall what the article was about - I think he was being sought at that time, but no pic of her accompanied the article. I remember looking closely because he was listed as a "light skinned black male" and at first glance I thoguht he was white, so i took a closer look. Wow, I have to find that article. This is weird.

Something very stinky and hinky with the boyfriend's story- the dogs found no scent of hers, helicopters found nothing, LE found nothing to indicate she was in those woods. Sounds like a nice tidy alibi for this fool.

I agree with every word you wrote. I was just trying to bend over backwards, ( way backwards! ) in hopes of trying to be fair. Just in case...

But I agree, I think he will try to use it as an alibi. I hope she is found safe, but I don't think this is going to turn out well at all...

I totally understand why you posted that, and yes, two sides to every story should be presented. I'm glad you do that, keeps us all in balance my friend. :)

I do have one question for everyone- is it me, or are quite a few cases lately (Blaze Berstein, Blake Smith, eg) having suspects or persons of interest making false claims about victims having depression issues, but yet they would NEVER harm themselves?

I totally understand that folks get depressed and kill themselves- that is a tragedy alone for the victim and their loved ones and friends, but these damn suspects using it as an excuse to either buy time to fly the coop or think they can make it appear a suicide make me sick.

Thanks, I wondered the same thing about whether the boyfriend was the source for the information about her depression and brain injury. If so, I'd find that very suspicious in and of itself...

I think he was picked up in GA.

Maybe he fled after they confiscated his car?

The woman that he kidnapped on Feb 6th had the green Mercury Villager, to which they found burnt.

I wonder if the car he has now is Jessica's car and not his own?

I can’t find anywhere that the boyfriend is identified. The picture is of Kyle Smith but it is not so clear he is the boyfriend.

The nature reserve is small (900 acres) and is bordered on one side by a river. I can see getting lost in it but it shouldn’t be that hard to find someone. There are some high cliffs and someone could stumble over them in the dark.

They are certainly treating it as suspicious.

"Police say they still have not found Jessica Burk, but they did find a knife and they know she had one on her. They also found some clothing - specifically gloves but they don’t know if they are hers. The knife was found near a creek."

Oh wow, so where did Georgia come from?! Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if this poor woman Jessica was even his girlfriend! Why he would call the cops and report her missing when he was wanted for kidnapping and assaulting another woman two days ago is just unreal! I hope someone has communicated this information to both police departments about this guy.

“Sheriff Derek Robbins says Kyle E. Smith, 23, of Danville surrendered in LaGrange, Georgia Wednesday. Robbins says authorities in LaGrange found the 1999 Mercury Villager Smith was driving burned in the woods, and a witness spotted the man leaving the vehicle.”

"No longer a search effort. Police say because of the amount of time that has passed & due to the cold, they believe this will be a recovery mission tomorrow. Also, they do not believe the boyfriend is a person of interest at this time. "

Also, states this guy is from Danville, KY while Jessica and her boyfriend lived in Frankfort, KY. I really think it was just bad info on the first reports.
