Troopers responded to a home on helm Schoolhouse Road in Lebanon Tuesday after learning about a 15-month-old child who was missing from a daycare.

The child, identified as Lincoln Spalding, was later found in a nearby pond and transported to a hospital.

The Marion County Coroner pronounced Spalding dead at the hospital.

Troopers have not announced any charges. The investigation continues with the assistance of social services and the inspector general's office.

OMG what a terrible tragedy. I feel heartsick thinking how this child was left in the care of this daycare and he ends up dead in a nearby pond. He was only 15 months old....how did he get there?

Someone more industrious than myself could find the address of the daycare and look for the nearby pond on Google Earth.

Maybe someone from the area could fill us in.

If the pond is on the other side of the road, I am convinced that a 15 moth old baby could not possibly have made it out of the daycare, through the stickers and brush, walked across the road, voluntarily plunged on through more brush instead of following the road , and waded into the pond. All on his own, and not screaming and crying loud enough to wake the dead.

If the daycare is licensed there would have had to be a barrier between the daycare building and pond, surely!

Some 15 month old toddlers can move VERY fast. My son walked well and was very steady at 10 months and was running at 12 months. Unless we were in an enclosed/fenced backyard or a building I made sure he was in a stroller or in my arms - whether he liked it or not. I couldn't take the chance that he would run towards something dangerous before I could catch him.

Google maps reflects multiple homes on Helm Schoolhouse Road with ponds near the home. While none of the ponds appear to have barriers, it can be difficult to see all details on Google maps. All of the homes appear to be set back from the road.

What a tragedy. :( My heart goes out to the parents and family as well as the caregiver....I'm sure the guilt will be heart crushing.
