In the video, we hear from Officer Josh Thompson of the 7th division, who was on the case. He said the search led them to a house, and at that house, he was approached by a dog.

"I'm kind of being a little leery of the dog. He's barking, chirping at me a little bit, and then continues to follow me back to the front porch again to knock on the house again," Thompson said.

Then he said, "Hey, let's go find this kid," and the dog runs off to the backyard.

Officers saw the back door was open and went inside, but the dog led them back outside to the garage, and that's where they found the child in the passenger seat of a vehicle.

They said he was terrified, and they helped him unlock the door and got him out safely.

"Outstanding work by our officers, and a four‑legged friend who reminded us that heroes come in all forms," a social post from LMPD s
