A missing North Carolina 16-year-old was found hidden under a trap door inside a Lincoln County, Kentucky man's home on Christmas Day.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, Ky. (WTVQ) — A missing North Carolina 16-year-old was found hidden under a trap door inside a Lincoln County, Kentucky man’s home on Christmas Day, police say.

Zackary Jones says he thought he was simply helping an 18-year-old, but police say his involvement with the 16-year-old was illegal on many fronts.

He claims from jail he was helping the girl. The girl’s family says that is far from the case.

Jones is facing more than 30 different charges, including rape, but from the Pulaski County jail, he says he met the girl online and was told she was 18. He says he went to North Carolina to help her.

“Her grandma kicked her out. She didn’t appear to be that age (16). She had all kinds of piercings,” Jones said.

However, the 16-year-old girl’s grandfather, Eugene Baughman, says she ran away from her grandmother and then met up with Jones.

“She started taking her privileges away from her, her phone and stuff. That’s when she got mad and left. She would not come back home,” said Baughman.

Baughman says they lost complete communication with her for weeks. She was reported missing in early December. “I was thinking she was dead,” Baughman said.

A Lincoln County man facing multiple charges including rape, sodomy, assault, strangulation, and unlawful transaction with a minor from being with a girl reported missing from North Carolina is claiming from jail that police don't have the whole story.

In the report, a deputy wrote that investigators responded to the home just before 5:15 p.m. after the mother of 34-year-old Zackary Keith Jones called deputies to report a domestic dispute between her son and his "girlfriend."

The affidavit goes onto say, after he drove the girl to his home, she found out from his family he was 34 years old, and that he told her to tell everyone she was 18. She also told investigators he threatened to shoot and kill her on multiple occasions, the report continues.

Jones admitted to doing drugs with the teen and having sex with her on multiple occasions, investigators wrote in the complaint. Deputies said they also saw visible marks around the teen's throat.
