KY - Rowan County clerk Kim Davis Jailed for Contempt, 2015

Here's the deal. Keeping her in jail was making a "hero" out of her. She was accumulating a following in jail. Best to let her out, and let this play out quietly. Anyone who wants marriage licenses can go elsewhere to apply for them, and she can slowly dissolve into obscurity. Hopefully.

BBM Yes, they can go elsewhere, but Judge Bunning's ruling (not to mention the Supreme Court's ruling) means they should not have to. By the logic of your statement it would be all right if gays, or African Americans, or Christians, or atheists had to use a different bathroom, or a different entrance. This is 2015, not 1815.

Using Kim Davis' logic, a Catholic who believes it is a sin to divorce and that subsequent marriages of divorced persons are the equivalent of bigamy could have denied her own multiple requests for marriage licenses. Anyone here believe she would have been okay with going from county to county to find a non Catholic (or Catholic who rejects that principle) willing to issue her yet another marriage license?

This is exactly why government officials have no business using "freedom of religion" as a justification to deny others who don't share their beliefs their constitutional rights.

As for me, you bet I would go somewhere else -- to another booth or desk or whatever. I wouldn't want a marriage license signed by her and even if her sig wasn't on it, I wouldn't want her to have anything to do with my license. But I would stand there till I got it from some daggone body in that office. Grrrr

Yes, let's let the bright lights and microphones go somewhere else.

Kim Davis' lawyers file new appeal

Appeal seeks to reverse 4 rulings by U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning

(CNN) -
Lawyers for Kim Davis -- the Kentucky county clerk who spent six days in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples -- have filed an appeal to the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals asking to reverse rulings they claimed trampled her religious rights.

The new appeal seeks to reverse four rulings by U.S. District Court Judge David Bunning, decisions that Davis' attorneys called "a rush to judgment that promoted expediency over due process."

Specifically, Davis' legal team wants the appeals court to overturn Bunning's original injunction that she issue same-sex marriage licenses and his order holding her in contempt of court for refusing to do so...

From the Governor Bevin's Facebook page:
Today, I took action to uphold several commitments I made during my campaign so that we can implement real solutions that will help the people of Kentucky.

Governor Bevin Fulfills Commitment To People Of Kentucky
The following Executive Orders are being filed today:

• To ensure that the sincerely held religious beliefs of all Kentuckians are honored, Executive Order 2015-048 directs the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives to issue a revised marriage license form to the offices of all Kentucky County Clerks. The name of the County Clerk is no longer required to appear on the form.

Let's hope this is the end of that.

It seems to me that if the County Clerks signatures are not necessary on the marriage license forms then they shouldn't be necessary on any County forms and therefore, there should no longer be a need for any County Clerks.

No more County Clerks, no more records, no more forms, no more fees, no more salaries, no more services, means smaller government, isn't that what some people want? Why do they even need a Governor?

Its not over, imo.

Am bent on finding out who they are the guests of. (Or, of whom they are the guests)

Kim Davis and Mat Staver will be seated in the House Chamber: Kim Davis in Gallery 3, Row D, Seat 49, and Mat Staver in Gallery 10, Row C, Seat 30.

BBM: SMH. They still don't get it. No one is attacking their religious liberty. They aren't the ones getting married. They are free to practice their religion any way they want.

“It's been a mystery all day on Capitol Hill: Which member of Congress invited controversial Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis to the State of the Union address? Well, we finally have an answer. It was House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

There's a reason the secret was kept so well. Jordan did not know he had invited Davis until The Huffington Post asked him about it and he checked with his staff.

"I didn't invite anyone," Jordan initially said late Tuesday afternoon, as he was jogging to House votes. When pressed on whether he had given his ticket to the Family Research Council, which then gave it to Davis -- which is what a Democratic aide told HuffPost had happened -- Jordan said he would have to confirm with his office. "I don't know," he said.”
