''It's been 35 years since 22-year-old Valeri Brooks was kidnapped, raped, and murdered in Versailles. Valeri, a mother to two boys, was working the night of December 30, 1990, when she took on an extra late-night shift. It was the last time anyone would see her alive.

Versailles police say that night they were called to a robbery alarm at Thornton's, but the gas station was empty. Five hours later, on December 31, police say they were contacted by a woman traveling down a rural road when she spotted something: Valeri's body.''

If there’s DNA, there’s hope. It’s incredibly disheartening that law enforcement hasn’t bothered to reach out to her brother in so many years. Valerie deserves justice, no matter how long it’s been.

Police in central Kentucky are investigating whether a serial killer imprisoned in Florida could be connected to the killing of 22-year-old Valeri Brooks of Versailles more than two decades ago.

''Police in central Kentucky are investigating whether a serial killer imprisoned in Florida could be connected to the killing of 22-year-old Valeri Brooks of Versailles more than two decades ago.

Versailles Assistant Police Chief James Fugate said investigators were looking into whether there were connections between Brooks and 50-year-old Glen Edward Rogers, a man dubbed the "Cross-Country Killer" who has relatives near Versailles.

Investigators plan to compare Rogers' DNA on file in Florida to evidence from Brooks' slaying. Rogers is awaiting execution for the fatal stabbing of Tina Cribbs, a 34-year-old mother of two whom he met her at a Tampa bar in November 1995''.
