"The safety and wellbeing of our clients is paramount," said the statement from Karen Rutledge, Shangri-La's chief executive. "Terri was hired because she has skills and training that enable her to provide excellent support in this critical area of need."
The company said it did not broadly disclose Horman's personal history to other employees or stakeholders when she was hired. Horman approved the disclosure of Friday's statement after the company was contacted by The Oregonian/OregonLive, which learned of her employment through a fellow employee.
"In hiring Terri, we not only followed all applicable laws, statutes and administrative rules, but we also followed our own values and principles. Shangri-La works to promote a culture of acceptance, trust and compassion. We believe our actions reflect these deeply held beliefs, " said Rutledge.
