Ammel is described in the lawsuit as a troubled veteran with brain injuries and neurological problems who relied on marijuana and struggled to find work until he joined Sinema’s security staff in 2022.
When he faced the Legislature, Ammel described himself as “a (expletive) mess.”

Ammel faces a pair of felony assault charges in North Carolina stemming from an alleged Nov. 20 attack on a medical worker who told him he could not leave because of an involuntary commitment relating to erratic behavior and threats.Ammel had a “mental break and uncontrollable anger” toward his rental property manager, she said. Ammel called the manager 12 times at 6 a.m. and left four messages, court records show.

Ammel then falsely accused the property manager of breaking into his home, with Ammel threatening “that he would shoot him if he came to the rental property and that he should be scared,” records show.

Ammel also sent the property manager pictures of himself holding guns.

It led to Ammel being involuntarily committed at Moore Regional Hospital, where he was accused of strangling hospital staff...
