SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport police are on the scene of a mass shooting in the Cedar Grove neighborhood that has left at least eight people dead and others wounded, according to SPD. The suspect, an adult male, is also dead. He was shot at a scene in Bossier Parish.

The victims range from 18 months to 14 years old. Two other adult women were shot in the head and survived. A third person, a young boy, was injured when he jumped from a roof.

The initial shooting occurred early Sunday morning in the 300 block of West 79th Street near Linwood Avenue. At 9:30 a.m., at least 30 police units remained on the scene.

Police say there are two other related shooting scenes. One approximately a quarter-mile away on Harrison Street between Wallace Avenue and Bernstein Avenue and the third in Bossier Parish on Brompton Lane near Long Acre Drive.

Eight children are dead after a shooting on W. 79th Street, ages ranging from 18 months to 15 years old.

Police say it started as a domestic dispute, and the suspect tried to run by carjacking and going to Bossier.

Bossier Police located the suspect and shot him. The suspect is now dead.

The Shreveport Police Department has confirmed through a preliminary investigation the incident began at a home on Harrison Street. One person was shot and police said they are in critical condition.

Police said the suspect moved to W. 79th Street where they fired shots in two residences.

The suspect then went to the corner of W. 79th Street and Linwood and allegedly stole a vehicle, fleeing from police. The suspect was shot and killed in Bossier City.

This is beyond tragic. IMO-it sounds like the suspect killed his own children as well as some visiting and also shot other adult family. They are forever safe with Jesus now.

Anyway, this almost sounds like it might be another version of the Rhoden massacre. RIP to all the victims, and may the survivors make recoveries as complete as possible. You know they probably didn't have the best lives beforehand.

It is a bit confusing. But it appears that the children and the women were shot at their home, by a man, Shamar Elkins, who was related to some of the children. All 8 children were killed, and two women were shot and taken to the hospital.

The police were called, and the suspect, carjacked a vehicle, and was shot by the police at a different location after a high speed chase.

Sad. This type of "domestic violence" family annihilation seems to be a daily occurrence now in the United States.
