People from all across Jefferson Parish have been visiting the memorial and reaching out with North's family. Many say they'll keep in touch with Lisa North-Hill, who's just a 20 year old, dealing with this monumental loss.

"We will be there for her," said neighbor <snipped name>. "She has a lot of the females' phone numbers who came up and greeted her and hugged her, we all touched hands with the lady and we wished her well and ask that she stay firm with God and believe that something that happen to you is very, very tragic but the community is here for you."

This whole story has really shaken me up as well. So much about this story is so sad...starting with Mom just as a sympathetic character. LN is only 20 years old...that means she had Ahlittia at 14. Who was raping her at 13 and impregnating her? Ugh. Her life hasn't exactly been easy. Yet here is little Ahlittia who by all counts looks loved and cared for. I don't know the custody situation with the bioDad (I hope he isn't in the same age range as her current hubby who is 45, because if he is...). Anyhow, no matter how she came to life, again, she was loved and cared for.

That sick predator MF has no soul and Mom was very naive when she very sincerely kept asking, "why would anyone take a 6 year old?" *sigh* This crime is also over the top brutal. I wouldn't doubt for a second the brother had something to do with all of this.

All in all, it's like a different sort of cast of Les Miserables. I can't stop thinking about all of them, especially the beautiful little innocent girl that so senselessly lost her life.

RIP little Ahlittia. May justice be served and may peace also find your family.

What in the world happened in those two boys' lives to make them be so full of hate and apathy? In no way am I making excuses for them, but I'm just wondering what went wrong and where. I look at my four children, and they are so tenderhearted and couldn't bear to hurt anyone. How does one go from a little child, to a killer.... just like that?

What on earth could a beautiful 6 year old girl do to make you want to stab her to the bone? WHAT?????

ETA: Could Katrina have caused PTSD in these men in their early teens? I just can't wrap my mind around murdering an innocent child, so I'm trying to rationalize it somehow, I guess.

bbm, T4Tide: I always find myself wondering this, too, in cases like these -- where the person/s who have done something completely horrible and despicable to a sweet, innocent child are not all that many years away from having been an innocent child. It makes me doubly sad, and I can't help but grieve some for the child/children the perp(s) once had to be, wondering what happened in their lives to turn them onto the path they got on.

And no, it is no attempt to "excuse", of course not. But I just can't help wondering, and wishing it hadn't been so, for all involved.

I doubt it was Katrina -- likely it was many things, accumulating.

Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich said Wednesday that a pediatric rape kit performed during the autopsy found no obvious signs of sexual assault, including trauma, bruising or lacerations. But pathologists are still awaiting the results of other testing.

I am wondering the same also that he took the uncle's toothbrush is very strange or any toothbrush for that matter. Is it possible MF planned to use the toothbrush to rub some DNA on her to try and frame the uncle? Who knows :jail:

For two, a toothbrush and toothpaste were also missing. Toothbrush did not belong to Ahlittia.


Clearly MF is lying about how gained access to her. Why take the comforter? Did he wrap her up in it and carry her out while she was asleep? Also remember she was in an upstairs bedroom.

Is it possible he was already IN the house? If he had a key from previous babysitting (or even without) he could have gained access when they went out to the store and hid in a closet or something. &#8220;We got all excited thinking she was alive,&#8221; Albert Hill, Ahlittia&#8217;s stepfather said Tuesday.

But the development was devastating: deputies told Hill and North that they had found Ahlittia&#8217;s tiny body stuffed at the bottom of a trash can rolled out to the curb six doors down from her mother&#8217;s apartment in Harvey, hours before a garbage truck was scheduled to empty it.

Matthew Flugence was no stranger to Ahlittia, her 1-year-old brother and 9-month-old sister, having baby-sat the children on several occasions, relatives said. He also lived at 2900 Destrehan Ave., across a small courtyard from Ahlittia.

Normand said investigators believe the door of the apartment was locked, which Hill said was true. Hill said Matthew Flugence did not have a key to the apartment, so Ahlittia must have unlocked the door at some point during the night.

Bernard Barnett, Ahlittia&#8217;s uncle, said earlier in the day that it would have been impossible for the girl, who was 4 feet, 5 inches tall and weighed 60 pounds, to open the front door and an iron security gate on her own. What I feel towards MF goes against everything I believe! Ideally, him being released into general population and then video playing showing what he did to AN for all of the inmates to see. Followed by all of the guards going on break and turning a blind eye to the proper @&$ whipping he deserves! Repeat daily.

One Woodmere resident said Wednesday that her young daughter had heard about Ahlittia's murder and that she wanted to come to the memorial and leave a teddy bear. That child, who looked to be about Ahlittia's age, told a reporter on the scene, "I feel bad for the little girl." She expressed her sorrow without the head-shaking dismay that adults outside the residence displayed when talking about Ahlittia's death. Dismay isn't included in a young child's emotional repertoire.

Psychologists offer advice for discussing Ahlittia North's slaying

BBM, isn't that the truth! I have been thinking about that a lot lately...you can do everything "right" to protect yourself, but if someone's determined to hurt you, they'll find a way to do it.
