Aha...very true why not get rid of anything that could incriminate you? Only answer is they were "trophies".. he really must have thought he would not be caught for this murder is also what it tells me... Think we will be shocked as this all unravels and LE has some damning evidence....

At this point I am almost certain... there is more to come.
A lot more.

Mickey did what LE couldn't and she will be a "Hero"!

Anthropology is/was her major- the academic study of humanity...
the variations between different "groups" of humans.

She may have stopped a serial killer by causing him to seek treatment for the injuries he recieved.

When Lafayette police arrested Lavergne, they searched his home in the Swords area of rural St. Landry Parish. Among items taken was an undisclosed number of women’s IDs, according to sources with information of the ongoing investigation.

John Douglas' Mind Hunter

Closing In

In his 1996 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit, John Douglas describes his initial profile of Alaska's suspected serial murderer Robert Hansen.
*****
As the profile progressed, Douglas told investigators that if Hansen was the killer, he was probably a "saver" and would be keeping small souvenirs from his victims.
*****
Investigators found weapons throughout the house, but nothing to implicate Hansen in any of the murders. Then, just as they were about to call it a day, one of the officers discovered a hidden space tucked away in the attic rafters. Within it, they discovered a Remington 552 rifle;

a Thompson contender 7-mm single-shot pistol; an aviation map, with specific locations marked off; various pieces of jewelry; newspaper clippings; a Winchester 12-gauge shotgun; a driver's license, and various ID cards, some of which belonged to the dead women

Graphic design prowess /= journalistic integrity.

Smugness and arrogance are not hallmarks of the greats of the industry.

I know you'll disagree, but to give the non-locals another perspective. My
Personal opinion about the Independant is that they filled a journalism gap and aren't like most other media outlets. I think they do report what they believe is true based on the source who gave them information. Kind
of like a verified member on WS. I think by doing so, they take
a bold step and the paper takes a bolder stance in issues that other papers wouldn't do out of risk for their credibility. They do have a biased opinion most of the time, but I've agreed with their opinion more times than not. They're not scared to stick their neck out if they believe their source is creditable. They're connected too. They also have a newspaper strictly on business issues called ABiz. And now their app Abuzz. Sha!

I'm going to cut The Independent some slack for now. You may remember that early on I gave them some props for digging hard on issues. Yes, sometimes they go out on a limb, but there is investigative journalism going on there, to a degree now unusual at The Advertiser (hamstrung by the Gannett takeover and severely limited in the department of investigative journalism).

The idea that the Independent reporter e-mailed back and backed up the claim carries weight with me, as a former journalist.

We shall see.

I am sorry for the slash and burn job done to the Advertiser, AND the fact that it now costs $1.00 for a very thin paper, compared to 25 cents 10 years ago and a thicker one. The Advertiser is quickly becoming irrelevant to Lafayette. We are becoming a good-sized, growing, city without an effective newspaper. :-(

Due to market forces out of the reporters' control, I do not, and cannot, count on the Advertiser to adequately cover the city. Thus now there is room for The Independent to step in and do the key journalistic work,

Reminds me of our Times Picayune. Bought out by Newhouse. Coming this fall our paper will be reduced from a daily paper to 3 times per week. We will be relegated to the horrible format of Nola.com. Such a shame.

See previous thread for coffee shop convo. Also, see the warnings that have already been posted by moderators. No more coffee shop discussion! They have asked that we MOVE ON NOW

The newspaper is almost done as a source of news in south LA (this is happening to NBC, ABC and CBS, as well) and what's scary is that we are heading into the void of a transition era in which news is going to be hard to find, but rumor a'plenty.

"It would be very interesting to see the preliminary & progressive profile prepared by the FBI BAU2 on Mickey Schunick's abductor". Seems that many times they hit the nail on the head and other times miss the nail and hit their thumbs....Fortunately behavioral profiling which can be very effective, is only one tool of many in missing persons investigations.

Howard D. Teten was the first FBI Agent to give a profile for the FBI.

Mr. Teten started out as a veteran police officer from the San Leandro Police Department in California, joined the FBI in 1962.

He studied under, and was inspired by, Dr. Paul Kirk, the internationally renowned criminalist.

He’d looked at the behavioral manifestations at a crime scene for evidence of aberrant mental disorders and other personality traits and then used that information to make deductions.

Teten initiated his criminal profiling program in 1970 for the Bureau. Later that same year, Teten gave his first profile as an FBI agent in Amarillo, Texas.

In 1972, the Federal Bureau of Investigation opened the new FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia

1997: The BSU(originally referred by the other Agents as the Witches unit) evolved into the Behavioral Analysis Unit for obvious reasons. (BS Unit)..

Respectfully disagree....

Matt Drudge is a pioneer in Internet editorial discretion.

But on the local level, the level which I was addressing, specifically regarding the beneficial public impact of a well-edited newspaper, the death of the daily newspaper means that we have no editors - a key function of newspapers - as evidenced by the fact that the CajunNet has been driving this case.

We didn't used to have to do all this bootstrapping fact-checking.

That's what newspaper editors were for; emphasis on the word, "were."

Not everyone has the time to do all the fact-checking we do. One reason why the country is plunging into disarray: an uninformed electorate has a hard time governing itself. Chaos is the result.
