"100, 000+ Missing/murdered across the USA; The Silent Epidemic"
Imo, it would be impossible to acurately estimate the active serial predators/killers in the USA. Imo, the numbers are increasing due to the meth epidemic. Meth is the common denominator found in most serial killers since the 1980s...

FBI Special Agent John Douglas

“Mind Hunter” says, “A very conservative estimate is that there are between 35-50 active serial killers in the United States” at any given time. Often, Douglas told me, they will, “kill 2-3 victims and then have a “cooling-off” period between kills.”

Not sure whether this has been posted -- at any rate, I'm not remembering seeing it. Some interesting info!

Investigators look to more cold cases for possible connection to Brandon Lavergne

“We are pretty confident we know how he accomplished Mickey’s homicide,” he continued. “The information is limited in the Pate case. Yes, we have a clue, but we don’t expect an offender to commit the same crime the same way. For example, Pate wasn’t riding a bike, but Mickey was. The girl in Evangeline Parish was an associate of his, so he knew her, but we don’t think that he knew Mickey or Pate. We have a lot to look at.”

I think it's been in some previous coverage.

OK sorry thanks. I'm gonna delete my post cause now I feel silly. :)
Nah...not silly at all. ;) We do have an entire forum dedicated to the Jennings murders.

[ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=323"]Jennings, Louisiana - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame]

But, LE has ruled him out because he doesn't fit the timeline.

“Everyone initially thought that he would be connected to the Jeff Davis murders, but he was incarcerated at the time, so there’s no possible way he could have been connected to those cases,” Cpt. Judice, said.

For Texas missing and cold cases, the I-45/Texas Killing Fields is a good source of information.

And you can search unidentified victims by state in the Unidentified forum.

Good article: gives a description of where Lisa Pate was found and that she died of asphyxiation. Also that they tried to indict BSL for her murder before he was released from prison but didn't have enough for the grand jury.

From your link, LouisianaNYCGirl:

Harson, whose office covers Lafayette, Acadia and Vermilion parishes, said Pate apparently died of asphyxiation.

I believe this is the first I have seen even a tentative cause of death mentioned for Lisa Pate. Maybe they have made a recent determination...

Just taking a guess, but it seems that even though they have not found Mickey's body, it may still be their strongest case (maybe due to technology, cell phone pings, gps, maybe video evidence). If that is true, I would think Mickey's case would be tried before Lisa Pate's. JMO

I can't believe he has been charged with 2 murders.

It seems certain to me that there are more. :(

Rest in Peace, Lisa Pate.

Most sexually-motivated killers do kill by strangulation, so asphyxia makes a lot of sense.

That's the first time I see a COD for LP...I thought it was undetermined!!:waitasec:

Sounds like someone is talking. How could you determine a COD of asphyxiation on a corpse that had outside decomposing for a couple of months?

the fact that Lisa Pate was last seen in June and said to have died on July 3rd really makes me wonder if he kept Mickey longer than just May 19th...

My sister said that to me early on. She does not believe that Mickey died on the 19th, but was kept alive for a while.

Fractured hyoid bone.

bbm: A different breed of serial killer, would you say, Foxfire?

Maybe a broken hyoid...but after 3 months in the elements..idk if that's still able to be determined..But they could have found something in the house..a journal..pics..etc...etc

Judice noted that Lafayette Parish has roughly two dozen unresolved missing person cases that date back to roughly 1997.

“As much as we’re looking at cases he could have possibly been involved with, we’re also looking to clear him from cases as well,” Cpt. Judice, explained.

http://www.nbc33tv.com/news/crimetr...s-for-possible-connection-to-brandon-lavergne

Add to that any unsolved murders (where they found the body) and any unsolved rapes and there could be quite a list to check.

FYI, his victim of rape in 99 is quite petite with light brown or dirty blonde hair. I got a glimpse of one of his exGFs today with her two young children. (A friend told me she used to date BSL) she was very blonde as were her children. She was taller than Mickey though.
