bbm: Just wanting to clarify: I think the only cause of death we've had reported (and that only fairly recently) was asphyxiation -- which could include strangulation, but also, I believe, could include some other things (and ones that wouldn't necessarily include a fractured hyoid bone). One I thought of was smothering -- I used the hypothetical example that maybe a plastic bag was found attached to or near the skull. Can anybody think of other possibilities along that line? (Since we don't know yet about the hyoid bone.)

Maybe duct tape still attached to skull indicating her mouth and nose were taped shut?

I suppose it is possible that the rice farmer could have rented the house but what I SPECULATE is that the real true story of who found it or when where why and how was vague to protect whoever tipped the police off or whoever looked for or stumbled upon the bones would be protected or feel safe. Also owner (landlord) may be a rice farmer, or not,* may have found the bones or not. Or it could have been the tenant. And in the area it is not uncommon for a home to be surrounded on all four sides by fields. Like really if you let the edge of your yard grow as tall as the field on side of it...it kind if becomes part of the field....

OK now, I realize this is probably just a media mess-up, one way or another, but THIS is still bothering me:

Now, without the give-away clue of names being included and if I didn't know, I just wouldn't nimbly jump to the conclusion that these three accounts are all speaking about the discovery of the same body!

I know they are -- but seems like small-to-large discrepancies in the accounts. Maybe because this event happened so long ago...?

<sigh> It just almost made me start wondering if maybe Lisa's body was "discovered" more than once ...

Hmmm -- I guess other possibilities could be fumes of some kind ... and maybe aspirating something, even vomit ... but the only way I could account for them detecting those things, after she was dead for some time, would be if someone witnessed something happening and now has reported it.

ETA: I'm just brainstorming this because it is odd to me that they (apparently) did not assign a cause of death "back when" and now they have. Just seems like a fractured hyoid would have been detected in the first forensic exam.

A bit off topic..while I was in nursing school we had an instructor who was from CP. For Halloween her daughter "who was in our nursing class" came to school dressed as a prostitute. It all went downhill from there. A few days later the instructor went nuts! She threatened to kill another teacher, she was throwing things in the lab and just stormed off the campus leaving all of us wondering WTH.

She came back the next day like nothing happened. The police were called and she escorted off the grounds. We found out later that she was also calling a male student trying to hook up with him and he told. She was fired. It was a very crazy experience. The teacher and her daughter had a strained relationship and the daughter wore that outfit to embarrass her mom.

The crazy part was that she was the best instructor we had.

That is a sad story -- for all concerned, it seems.

I guess maybe they just withheld the first time around -- but some of the early reports just came right out and said, pretty much, that the COD could not be determined. So -- I don't know...

I'm thinking, if not that, then --
(1) yeah, video or pictures
(2) a new expert looked at forensic evidence
(3) someone talked (more than ever before)

Lol..it's hard to keep kids out of the water! On one of my fishing expeditions I took my grandkids on I bought a life jacket for the youngest (first time fishing) even though we were going to be on a dock because the water is so brown and the visibility is so poor. It was a good thing as the life jacket gave me something to hold onto her with because she was just so excited there was no paying attention to the edge of the dock on her part and she didnt care if she fell in. Grandma paid attention though -- as I had NO plans on swimming in da bayou!:what:

Interesting... It was said that BSLs cousin is Gary the author. Gary was born and raised in Churchpoint and his dad- BSLs uncle worked for the police department.

Been catching up on past posts in this thread. So BSLs cousin wrote a book about serial killers? And that cousins dad was murdered (BSLs uncle). Really strange this whole case keeps getting weirder I feel like. Yikes. I do think Mickey will be located soon though. BSL is messy and there had to be some good clues when LE searched his house and property that point to where Mickey is. So many people have worked very hard searching and it seems like search areas are getting more "focused" I think? I wish I could help search but I am too far away! Ugh I really hope they find Mickey soon! I don't know how much more anyone can take of this case it's stressful to try and sort out and finding Mickey sure would wipe that smirk off BSLs stupid face!

No I don't think that's what he/she is getting at....they said something like or a shirt like the wash cloth at the previous crime scene. I think they were hinting at d.n.a. type evidence. Moo

What about some kind of chemical on a rag smothered over the mouth, or even just a shirt or rag stuffed in mouth down throat. Idk. I'm thinking if they said the cause of death was asphyxiation and when LP was discovered as bones I think it's most likely the hyoid bone was fractured or showed some kind of damage. LE does have way more info about her death now then before (especially because they determined supposedly the exact day she died!).

EDIT: nvm realized that they recently determined a cause of death as asphyxiation but why wouldn't they have figured that out when they found her body in 1999, clearly it was a homicide because she was found hidden under boards why wouldn't they do any kind of tests to determine how she died? Ah maybe I keep reading things wrong idk but isn't LE and the medical examiners supposed to find out to the best of their knowledge the cause of death. Someone has given new info about this now or new evidence was discovered and there is probably a solid case against BSL.

Ah ok thanks! The uncle that was murdered - was his murderer found and convicted? If you don't know it's ok haha I will look around. I think that's pretty interesting, I wonder how close BSL was to the murdered uncle and if that happening had some effect on BSL or brought out his rage a little more (still doesn't make sense to kill innocent victims). Also I wonder how BSL feels about his cousin and his book(s?) he wrote, if he ever read them, talked to his cousin about such topics, etc.

I'm afraid that this will be something more complicated than BSL "just" being a psycho. From the comments I read so far I'm scared of what will surface in the future:/
It felt so depressing to see the picture of Mickey on her bike a few pages back. I try to read this cases keeping some sort of distance but I always fail. I couldn't help but think of how she was living her life, riding her bike, being a normal girl and now...

On a lighter note, while keeping up with Mickey's thread I learnt so many things about Louisiana. I didn't even know what Cajun meant, I actually had never heard the term before seeing it in here! :blush:
