For those of you who may be interested, BIA did do a follow up story on the police office that has been involved in the Mickey Shunick case and the information about the perjury accusation:

http://www.bustedinacadiana.com/2012/07/detective-involved-in-shunick-case-involved-in-probe-by-da/

Wow! This is very interesting. I guess whether he lied or not, they thought he was the best man for the job of the interview. I get that. I don't have a problem with it. If he was better at breaking him down than the other guy, then I'm glad they appointed him for the interview. Am I wrong here?? Is that really too scandalous or illegal??

Are the terms Lead Detective and Lead Investigator one in the same?

Just wondering--- When I called in a tip a the beginning of the case (turned not related to MS), the officer gave me the name of the Lead Detective. It was not Baumgardner.

I believe there were much less than 200 searchers. She did not tell me a number but I have the idea it is less than 50. That is a lot of acres a day! These searchers were on atv's. She said they hope to get horses out to search this Thursday and Friday if the weather permits.

From what she has shared with me, this group of searchers are passionate and committed and have a strong bond with each other.

do you know if they searched around those transmission towers around parish road 3-95? i don't believe in psychics, but i still think it's an area that should be searched if it hasn't already. i'm no expert in searching, however. just sayin'

Why would records be destroyed and not archived on computer? Seems strange, is it normal for records to be destroyed?

im not done totally catching up today. but this keeps bothering me also. didnt someone in the family (not calling names dont want bessie to spank me) work at a courthouse. wouldnt that be the easiest way to destroy it?:waitasec:

This has been an unusual case from the start. There have been a great number of locals that came here with inside knowledge. Thus the cajun net which seems to be a force all of its own.

We thought that there was a girl missing and then the twists and turns started.

Some of course comes from rumours which is dealt with in any case. The other thing I noted with the case was the absolute lack of information being released by LE.

Once a suspect was named we try to find out as much as possible. Unfortunately, in this case it has been virtually impossible to find out information that would normally be available.

Then came the aspect that there could potentially be more victims. Maybe even a serial killer. We had heard rumblings of many things but it was difficult to find verified information about simple things such as a car accident. The twists and turns this case has taken has had I would think many of us going in circles at times. We are as well dealing with families that are related it appears in various ways.

I believe there is more to come but we are going to have to be patient as that information has not been released.

I cannot think of a case that I have seen so many twists, turns, and locals so involved in. We have all been confused at times and I hope that some of the confusion will clear itself up which will allow us to focus on specific directions.

Maybe others that have followed more cases can think of a case this nuts, but I am sure this one must rank amoung some of the highest. HTH.

Have a super night all :)

'Excellent comment, Allusonz'..
Transparency in missing/abducted persons investigations by LE/MSM is the exception, rather than the rule. Normally in these investigations, from my experience, the MSM reports spoonfed info, virtually word for word from investigators/pios.

In the serial killer Gary Hilton(GA, FL, NC) investigation which began in GA 2008, very little accurate info was released to the public. A gag order soon followed in FL by the Judge and all investigative reports were redacted beyond comprehension. Once convicted & sentenced to death in FL, he went to Federal Court in NC for the murders of John & Irene Bryant(81 & 84 yr old).
Info was also silenced there and a plea agreed upon. The death penalty was taken off the table by the feds for a guilty plea..

Imo when the magnitude of an investigation involves multiple victims as in B <mod snip> Lavergne's. The MSM has to be very diligent to provide transparency to the public..

Imo, the LA media & cajun net has done an excellent job of uncovering info in this case.

Someone needs to look into where LP was working at the time she went missing & who else possibly worked there. Possibly a bar.

Want to say I have seen LP's place of employment mentioned somewhere. Anyone know?

Regarding good idea, bad idea to combine trials:

It may be good, as they can use everything they have in one case; if there are separate trials, sometimes some evidence from one case is not allowed in the other. There are some screwy decisions made, sometimes, about what is allowed.

I remember a case in Michigan some years back; a guy who had killed at least two women but was soon due to be released had been found in prison with a weapon that made to strangle people (his chosen method.) But the jury for the case about the weapon was not allowed to know this, or anything about the murders he had been convicted of. Luckily, they convicted him anyway, but it was a close call...

All great points, thanks!
Anyone have reasons why it might not be a good idea to try both together?

Well for all those that know about what i posted the other night. It still has not been reported so I just got off the phone with LE myself. They found info very interesting and are investigating. Thanks to all of you for your advice.

Please forgive if this has already been posted.

http://kpel965.com/tom-shunick-would-be-surprised-if-brandon-lavergne-pleads-guilty/

He’s liable to get the death penalty if they try the other case first. If they do, then why wouldn’t he come clean, providing he actually did it and has the body somewhere.

“The other case” involves the death of Lisa Pate, for which Lavergne is also charged with first-degree murder. Shunick says that indictment was only a small surprise.

Didn't HouDat mention a few places he had heard about through "six degrees of separation" several threads back?

after hearing mr. shunick's quotes, it strikes me odd that if they try lp first he would get the death penalty. thats what i want to hear. but the evidence must be totally damning. and mr. shunick repeated the info about multiple i.d.'s .

and God knows what else!!!

She worked at Poets, not sure if she was still working there when she went missing.

Whenever I google map in search of where MS could be, aside from cemeteries, my interest goes to the multiple salvage yards. If BSL wanted to put her somewhere safe that he could return to later......

Oh dear. Never thought of that. But there are MANY in the area. There were at least 4-5 around the previous area i lived. All near he would have possible passed, and that's just in 1 area.

Is there a MSM link confirming that he has a girlfriend (or at least had one in May)?

There is this

"Each day we find out more about the man police believe is responsible for Mickey Shunick's disappearance. Wednesday, TV0 learned that at the time of his arrest, a woman known as Lavergne's girlfriend, was brought into police headquarters for questioning, and later released."
http://www.klfy.com/story/18959578/arrest-made-in?clienttype=printable

There was also a recent local media report that stated that a number of local media outlets decided not to release the latest girlfriend's name to the public. I just don't remember which article.
