It's confusing to me to see people talking about how huge Mickey's case is in Louisiana, how much coverage it received, because I remember before BSL's arrest, there were posts here from people in other Louisiana cities and how their local news wasn't covering the case, people didn't know who Mickey was, etc. I just wonder if BSL hadn't been arrested yet, if Mickey's fate was still a complete mystery, if people would still be (overly IMO) satisfied with the state and national coverage of this case.

Also, some people have posted that if this happened in a big city, it wouldn't have gotten the same amount of attention. But what about the Etan Patz case in NYC? Etan went missing almost 35 years ago, and his case still receives national and local coverage.

i was disappointed with the media coverage in neighboring cities, but it seems like the lafayette people did a great coming together. i think LEs silence made it hard for the media to say anything newsworthy. i was very upset with baton rouge, however. but i don't consider baton rouge to be a part of the true cajun country community.

I have to say, I'd be pretty disappointed in any LE who would share unpublished details about an active investigation with someone who decides to post them on an internet bulletin board. At the very least it sounds like hearsay or gossip. Calling it 'cajun.net' (if one does so) doesn't change that.

no. even Mr. shunick said that they have belongings from his house. he didn't say what exactly, but he implied it was more than id's.

Regarding the area that's been discussed the last couple of days along 3-95), I participated in a foot searc the last weekend before they were called off, and the area we were in was in that vicinity. Not along that exact road, and I won't be specific, but it was in an "adjacent" area. With that being said, I couldn't say specifically that the area w/ the transmission towers around 3-95 was searched as well, as I can't say where they drew the line to end their foot searches at that time. Based on where we were, IMO only, I think that it's likely that the area in question would have been covered as well. However, the terrain out there is hellacious!! Where we were searching, the only thing I could think the whole time, was how easy it would be to overlook something, because there were so many areas you had to go over, under, around, etc. It felt so hopeless for me personally, and I left completely heartbroken thinking about what a tremendous task the Shunick's, TES, and all of the search organizers were faced with. I know that we do what we have to do to persevere when faced with tragedy, and I know that I would never give up if it were my loved one. But the amount of respect and admiration I have for the Shunick's and everyone involved in searching for Mickey is immeasurable, and I only went one day.

Thank you for your selfless act in behalf of another! I can't even imagine the emotional fatigue as well as the physical toll it takes on your body. It 's people like yourself that make a difference in our world.( Even if for only one day.) You have done a wonderful service for this family! :tyou:

I'm confused... Where are they getting all of the volunteers to search if they stopped asking for the public to help?

someone posted this earlier today.

Texas Equusearch is holding a training for new members this Sat. July 28, if anyone is interested.

Did you read what he actually said? I'm quoting directly from your link:

"Rumors are they found all kinds of drivers licenses and stuff in there. As far as the actual evidence, I’m just guessing like everybody else. They haven’t told me anything. But, apparently, it’s pretty strong."

What he actually says here is that he *is just guessing like everybody else*. And just the same, that has nothing to do with my post. His speculation is no license to treat speculation as fact. (I'm not saying that there wasn't all sorts of rich evidence there, but this forum's credibility hinges on rules of evidence, and rumor/speculation/gossip do not count as evidence here, regardless of the source.)

I remember a news clip, (that I can't find), where they did an interview during the search of BSL's home and the guy looked like he had just seen something terrible!

i would like to see that clip. i've heard others saying that, but i don't recall watching it myself. it was a sheriff i believe??

cluciano63. appeals are automatic in death penalty trials, should there be one..

Forums, such as this are healthy imo, to not only share info, sleuth, spread awareness, and occasionally vent, but to also motivate investigators and prosecutors in giving the innocent victim; Mickey Schunick, and her family the truth and Justice..

Although Lisa Marie Pate's investigation involved a multi-agency search in Acadia Parish, her case went cold due to silence, imo...
Lisa Marie Pate, did not receive the MS Media attention until 13 years later. Her file was placed in a dimly lighted room in a moldy basement, along with the many other cold case files.. Mickey's investigation has brought her case to light...
From what I have read murders in that area get very little attention.
A woman was BEAT to death and it was ruled a homicide (after initially being called a suicide) because she had cocaine in her system! (she was pulled out of her burning house btw!!!)
She was loosely tied to BSL's uncle (I think)
"LOL, I was called to jury duty in Pickens County, GA(good ole boy network), a few years ago, after the Meredith Hope Emerson tragedy/fiasco"..
The Honorable Judge ask if there was anyone that couldn't serve due to a hardship, etc.. I stood up and raised my hand. The Judge said to come up to the bench for privacy(side bar). I said, 'your honor, what I have to say does not require privacy"..He said OK... "I said, there is no Justice in this da.. corrupt County'.. 'He said, dismissed & we'll do the paperwork for you"..
'Still have the $35.00 check'..
None where I live either!
Imo, there will be a direct or indirect drug connection to BS LAVERGNE'S evil trail of terror..
I think so too!

I'm thinking he drank socially, but wasn't a boozer, ya know. If he was going to Poets, I'm sure he wasn't sipping on sprite, but that doesn't mean he was getting hammered either. He's a big guy. I'm sure he can put back a few without getting stupid drunk. Maybe someguy just meant that he didn't like drunks. The girl he dumped may have been a lush. My husband dated a girl for a few months but called it off because he was sick of carrying her to his car without her shoes at midnight every time they went out. It was a turn off, but my husband definitely drinks, as do I on some weekends, but I just don't get smashed. Once or twice a year I'll accidentally have too much - football season usually :blushing:

Pretty sure the legal age for drinking was 21 in 1999. Poets served food so he wouldn't have had problems getting in, but would have not been able to order a drink. While some bars in rural areas and campus hangouts may have turned a blind eye to underage drinking, an establishment like Poets was likely diligent in checking IDs, and also recognizing fake IDs.

you are correct. i now see that he said "rumors are....". a perfect example of how a mind can fill in the blank with what it wants. :truce:

It was 21. But that never stopped me from going drink at Poet's (or anywhere else for that matter). I was 20 at the time as well.

But on another note, I have known people to go out all the time and not drink (yes, very rare). My best friend very rarely drank, but would still go out with us every night.

Charley made her wall to where you can't write on it anymore. Even if you are her friend.

Hmmmm

She must be absolutely overloaded. I can't imagine how she's continued interaction this long. I hope she's getting some rest.

Mostly wooded. I noticed poison ivy in places, but can't say that I noticed it being everywhere....and there are so many things that look similar to poison ivy to me, that it all kind of blends together after a while:)...there were briars everywhere though. JMO
Thank you saralism. can you describe the terrain more? was it woods or more swampy? looks like woods from satellite. was there a lot of poison ivy in the area? dense low to ground shrubs massed together with high trees mixed in?

good point, but if he was friends with LP, he might have been able to get drinks.

i'm the same age as BSL, and I went to Poets and drank, but one of my friends was dating one of the bartenders. it may be easier for underage girls to get drinks than underage guys. they served us on the strip too. but again, we had a friend of a friend of the bartender. if you were with someone who was of age they would order your drink for you. you had to drink it fast before a "bouncer" would notice that you had the underage bracelet on. oh gosh, those stupid silly days seemed soooooo long ago.

anyway, in the 90s it was easy to drink underage at bars- at least for girls. i'm not sure if it still is anymore.

It's sad we can't do anything for her. It must be like she's lost half of herself. :-(

I would as well. I keep thinking about all those brown paper bags and how some looked oddly shape. In the back of my mind I kept wondering if it was possibly body parts. At the same time I was trying to say to myself no it's not, it just can't be. I really hope that thought is way off base.

Agreed, I don't care where the trial takes place.
A conviction can be overturned should it be determined that BSL did not get a fair trial because of prejudice against him in the area and the change of venue request was denied. It isn't likely to happen but it has past cases.

Imo, <modsnip> Lavergne was an equal opportunity predator...prejudice shouldn't be a factor...

Yes, jujube, it has happened in the past, If you do the research, you will find whether it be in LA, GA, FL, or any other state in the US, as soon as the Media & the folks move on to another victim of the silent epidemic. a Judge will either commute their sentence or order a new trial.. Most serial killers die of natural causes in prison.
Some things are simply beyond our control...

I almost ordered flowers for the headquarters today. After reading the article tho I'm glad I didn't! Does anyone know how many people work in there on a regular basis? I might send lunch one day this week. I can't believe it's been 66 days we've been looking for Mickey! Godspeed Mickey
