Ok, privacy is fine and must be respected, but doing so complicates things for the law enforcement; if law enforcement know he is Charles Wallace they would have already removed UID from the databases, but on the contrary, they inserted this UID recently, evidently either it's not Charles Wallace or they still have to compare it to him?
Well as far as the police are concerned it already has been compared to Charles Wallace. Back in 1975 when all you had was dentals and biological profiles he was a match....but according to his mother he wasn't. What could police do...they couldn't exactly force her to accept it was her son. I don't know how it works exactly but I assume if a positive ID by family is not made then you are bound to accept that. Hence I think why this young man remains unidentified.
They're never gonna compare him to Charles Wallace since he was never reported missing it seems. Hopefully that can change soon.

I have the 1975 Tulane yearbook if anyone wants to look through it. Unfortunately work has picked up for me so I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to do it.

This is not the case if it has already been reported but what do you think of this profile?

There's a strong similarity definitely. Especially the eyebrows and cleft in the chin. There has been some speculation elsewhere that Orin met up with a young man from San Francisco and they went off together.

I certainly don't mind taking a look! :)

@cenazoic I think you had asked on the circumstances of his hanging? According to the below article he tied the sheet in a slipknot around his neck, climbed the tree, tied the other end to a branch and jumped. It seems that rather then a hanging death, he died from strangulation. But honestly I didn't realise there was a difference? Does hanging not usually result in strangulation? It seems a sheet is not ideal to tie in a slipknot.

I think sometimes death by hanging can be quick, if the neck is broken from the force but often that doesn't happen, it's not instantaneous and there can very evidence of clawing around the neck.
It's not a nice way to go IMO.

I'm not an expert though so I'm going to go and check my facts...

Not to detract from the current discussion, the photographs of Bayard Cousins show a very unusual bite with a very narrow dental arch. We don't have a photo of Charles Wallace smiling but his facial structure suggests that his dental arch was not unusually narrow. Given that there was a dental match between BCJD and CW, would that not exclude Bayard Cousins as the John Doe?

You’re correct. Hanging usually results in a feature of some sort, most of the time in the neck. Strangulation is the closing of blood vessels and airways by an external force.

Personally, and based on my totally unprofessional and uneducated opinion, I believe it would.
I have no idea how many times a match by dentals has been proved to be incorrect but back before DNA I think they were considered pretty infallible? Add to that the other identification markers and well...

Oh no. I'm sorry to be blunt here but does that mean the way he died was probably not what he expected to happen :(

Also since the reconstruction shows quite full lips, could that have been caused by the strangulation and is not actually indicative of his true lips?

Ugh I'm so confused re Charles Wallace. I've gone through the Lexington High Yearbooks of 1969 to 1974 and really trawled them. He only appears twice as the President of the FFA, and another group photo, in the 1972-73 school year. I assume he was a senior in that year. I have found his brothers. But Charles has no class photo, not even a silhouette with his name! It's like he was President of the FFA group but didn't actually attend the school, that's so strange! Is it even possible?
Tried to see if his folks had maybe lived elsewhere but no, they seem to have always been in Henderson County, TN. One of the brothers is still in TN.

Memphis down to New Orleans looks like a pretty straight shot so I can see him hitchhiking down. As for ending up in Naomi, that's more difficult to explain.

That could be something as simple as one of the other boys/men in the halfway house in memphis having been from the area and talking about it, and CW being intrigued by the place. JMO

I even wondered if one of the other guys there gave him a name, someone around NOLa who could hook him up, for instance?

Maybe. I couldn’t say for sure without an autopsy report, but it could have been slow rather than the quick death he wanted.

Also a maybe, depending on if he actually broke his neck and hung or if he accidentally strangled himself. Strangulation does cause facial swelling.

I also think it's unlikely that you would pick a spot you have a personal connection to if you don't want to be found. I think it's more likely he had a more abstract reason to choose this remote location - maybe he read about it in a book or saw a movie/documentary about it. Or someone told him about it as mentioned above. A few years ago there was a case here on Websleuths where a man from Australia traveled to the Northern edges of the US (upstate NY/Lake Placid???) to end his life. Choosing a spot to end your life is not a process that can be rationalized by the rest of us and likely won't give us any hints about who they are.

Referring to Tony's post of suggestions, he said that there were many Italians in those parts, perhaps he was even a second generation Italian, I found this profile, it's difficult but it would fall within the age range

Anthony Shane Bertoglio missing from AK The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

Maybe he got to New Orleans and then just kept walking/traveling by whatever means until it got more and more isolated.

Possible.

I still think this was either a local or someone with local knowledge. I hear highway and think a road busy with cars or travel. This stretch seems pretty deserted. Locals/local knowledge would know that, be able to pick a time less likely to be found in time to help him. Hwy 90 is like that from Pascagoula, MS to Grand Bay, Al, isolated and not a lot of traffic.
