Missing car not found, search called off

http://www.katc.com/story/35405974/sheriff-nephew-confesses-to-six-year-old-cold-case

The object found by investigators in the Atchafalaya River is not the vehicle of a man missing since 2011.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said investigators did not find a car where Phillip Lafleur allegedly said he dumped his great-uncle's car with his body strapped in it.

Late today, we learned that investigators have found an object in the river that they believe may be Lafleur's car. Guidroz said the object was not Lafleur's car, and the search was called off. Nothing else was found in the area.

Lafleur pleads guilty in two slayings, sentenced to life

Phillip Lafleur was indicted in August in his uncle's slaying. He allegedly confessed to that murder. He told detectives that he beat his uncle to death because he wanted money. He said he strapped the body into a car and pushed it into the river.

Dale Lafleur, 68, disappeared in July 2011 from his home on Bayou Road in Port Barre. He was last seen driving his blue 1991 Mazda Miata convertible. At the time, deputies said he had been sick and depressed, but they suspected his disappearance involved foul play. A search and rescue operation was mounted, but no trace of him was ever found.

Is this a case Adventures With Purpose would check into? Surely investigators did sonar further down river.

AWP did do a search for Dale, but to no avail

Dale and his car are still missing

  • Associated Vehicle(s) Blue 1991 Mazda Miata convertible with gray primer color and a soft black top, and with the Louisiana handicapped license plate number 320729.

<<Philip stated he buckled his great-uncle's body into the passenger seat of Dale's Mazda and drove it into the Atchafalaya River across from Krotz Springs. Police searched the specified location, but they couldn't find Dale's car or his body. Nevertheless, in August 2017, Philip was indicted for his uncle's murder.

In November, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Dale's case and second-degree murder in Ceaser's death. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison for his uncle's case and life without parole for the other murder.>>
