NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans family is looking for a teenager last seen on Feb. 8.

Donald McNeil Jr., 18, was reported missing to police on Feb. 20, a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson said.

McNeil's mother, Larries Smith said she initially thought McNeil was trying to avoid family. Then his phone stopped ringing.

A mother is devastated following the disappearance of her son, 18-year-old Donald McNeil Jr. It was Feb. 9 when he was last seen by loved ones. Larrise Smith said she got worried when she received a call from McNeil's girlfriend.

"It was not alarming. She says 'I want you to call and check on Donald. I am worried about him.' I said, 'OK what is going on?' She said, 'He did not come back last night. He left to go with his friends,'" Smith said.

The family said they waited for a few days hoping McNeil would come back. But when they got a hold of his phone records they began to suspect.

"I checked his phone records. Saw that calls were being made. I started to contact the numbers being called. All the people being called from my son's phone did not know my son at all. They knew his friend that was with him," Smith said.

Family said McNeil was seen by loved ones last along North Rocheblave Street. He was going into the Columbia Park area on the night of Feb. 9 with friends and has not been seen or heard from since.

I wish Donald's family well in their search today. It'll be a cold day but layered clothing, walking around and a couple of pots of gumbo should help them stay warm. They are in my prayers.

I see a few parks and playgrounds within blocks of N. Rocheblave St. but none are name Columbia Park. I wonder if Donald & friends were heading toward Columbia Parc apartments & townhomes? If so, I hope the searchers check carefully near the RR tracks and the areas near the skatepark and St. Bernard Recreation Center. MOO

Missing Person Reported to NOPD First District
NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating an adult male reported to be missing.

Donald McNeil Jr. (pictured, black male, DOB: 09-03-2003) was last seen on February 9, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m. At that time, McNeil left to meet up with a friend. McNeil never returned home and has had no contact with the reporting person since that time.

Anyone with additional information on McNeil’s whereabouts is asked to contact NOPD First District detectives at 504-658-6010.

There is a park area there, it is named Lafitte, not Columbia. But New Orleans is weird, if Columbia was the old name, the neighborhood may still call it that.

Family members of missing teen say his body was found Monday in an abandoned home in the 7th Ward

The family of 18-year-old Donald McNeil said they were able to identify him after NOPD found a body in an abandoned home in the 7th Ward on Monday. The body was found in the 4100 block of Hamburg Street. NOPD officials said the cause of death was homicide.
