New Northshore sheriff takes over 7-year-old cold case of Donna Arceneaux's unsolved death

The 40-year-old mother of three was found shot in the chest at her home in 2017.

''The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office announced it will reopen a 7-year-old cold case surrounding the death of Donna Arceneaux.
The 40-year-old mother of three was found shot in the chest at her home in 2017.
At the time of her death, some local law enforcement officials called it suicide even though the autopsy classified the death as a homicide. Eventually, the Louisiana State Police took over the investigation.''
But thanks to a crime podcast and local news coverage, Smith has brought the case back into the WPSO just six months after he's officially taken the role as sheriff.
“Based on what I’ve seen of the case file, this is a solvable case," he said. "It’s something we can do and we’re going to take a crack at it. The podcast brought attention to this case specifically, and it’s just the right time to bring it back to the sheriff’s office and try to get it solved.”
