Vinton Police Department searching for missing man - Orange Leader

On March 21, 2021, the Vinton Police Department began investigating a missing person case involving Douglas Paul Crawford, 66, of Vinton.

Crawford was last seen in the Vinton area on March 20, 2021.

Crawford, due to a past medical procedure, has a deep, round, scar on his neck and is unable to speak. He communicates using a notepad and pen and usually wears a covering over his scar.

If anyone has any information regarding Crawford’s whereabouts please contact the Vinton Police Department at 337-589-3561 or email Detective David Lyons at [email protected].

Family of Vinton man missing nearly 41 days seeking answers

Douglas Crawford is missing. His son and daughter-in-law say this is out of his character, and they just want to increase awareness about his case.

”And the fact that he can’t talk because he had throat cancer. He writes everything down. If he’s hurt out there somewhere, he can’t yell for help. He can’t,” said daughter-in-law Katrina Crawford.

March 20, was the last day Crawford’s family saw him. Since then, they’ve missed quality time and even celebrating his birthday.

Jason Crawford says since the Vinton Police Department started investigating the case, they’ve gotten some answers but not enough to bring his dad home.

“The [solo] detective is working hard but Vinton is a small town with limited resources. The only help we’ve had looking for daddy is volunteers and us,” Jason Crawford said.

This week, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was asked to assist with the case and are speaking with several persons of interest who may have seen Crawford shortly before his disappearance.

Vinton man missing over 100 days, family still looking for answers

A Vinton man has now been missing for more than 100 days.

The Vinton Police Department remains in charge of the investigation has gotten some answers but not enough to lead them to the disabled father, brother, and grandfather.

Jason said his dad was perfectly normal in the days leading up to his disappearance. He said he wasn’t known to go off the grid and had no known enemies.

Chief Scott Spell with the Vinton Police Department said they know that Crawford was last seen with someone in the 1100 block of East Highway 90.

Since 7News last spoke to the family in April, at least 10 search warrants have been conducted and countless interviews with people who may have seen Crawford before he disappeared.

The family has also now hired a private investigator.

One of the only big leads in the case, so far, has been a phone call Jason Crawford received from an individual who found his father’s cell phone near the Vinton Motel.

Crawford’s car was also found at that motel and has since been seized for further investigation.

Doug sort of reminds me of Michael Douglas. Hoping his family finds answers soon.

Family of missing Vinton man seeks closure following months of searching

I can’t imagine what this family is going through...what a heartbreaking article to read.

July 18
Moments before his disappearance, Vinton police say the 66-year-old was last seen with someone in the 1100 block of Highway 90 East.

But police say there is no clear road for investigators to navigate and determine what led to his disappearance.

His family has come to terms with what they believe is the inevitable outcome in the case.

“Our dad didn’t just go on a vacation. He didn’t go, have a good time and go somewhere. He’s not with us anymore,” said Crawford’s daughter Jennifer Crawford.

All of the evidence does point to him being deceased and we’ve sort of accepted that, but we won’t find closure until we find my brother and his body, and we won’t have closure until we are able to put him to rest at our family cemetery,” Crawford’s brother George Crawford said.

They have hired a private investigator and are doing some investigating of their own.

Right now, he’s got almost $8,000 in his bank account. He’s no longer here,” said Crawford’s son Jason Crawford. “Somebody needs to do something. They need to do something about this.”
