LA - Hope Thibodaux for obstruction in 2yo son's rape, Sun, 2010

I was born in Washington Parish and still consider Franklinton/Mt. Hermon my home. This is really ticking me off!!! What the heck are LE in Washington Parish doing?
This is insane.

Not hard at all. A few months after the incident, the child's mother named a person of interest in a sworn statement to LE. When the grandparents contacted the Washington Parish detective to see if there'd been any progress, they were told the POI couldn't be found. The grandfather said he's found him several times and even called LE to let them know he was in front of the guy's house looking right at him. (I have to give it to the gf for having restraint.)

Washington Parish is tough on sexual predators and child abusers. If they are sitting on this one, there's a reason, which leads me to believe the allegations that the perp is connected to LE are true. And, yes, I'd love to know his name, too.

I agree. That's why this case is really shocking me.
Washington Parish is VERY rural. While driving through just about any town in Washington Parish, you will see SEVERAL yard signs that read "Jesus is Lord". It's very common. Most towns have one store, one school, and about 10 churches.

This is baffleing me y'all.

It is going to be interesting to see if Gov. Jindal gets involved. Let's hope so. This little innocent and the Grandparents deserve some help in getting this suspect behind bars.

I wonder if the sister of the little boy has been questioned or examined?

Gov. Jindal has done SO MUCH for our state in terms of tougher punishments for criminals who abuse children.
He also recently signed the Justin Bloxom Act (there is a Justin Bloxom thread here at WS)
I'll pull the info in a bit.

Im a firm believer in the constitution and the laws of this land. BUT...... enough is enough. Once again Our children need to be chipped, our government needs to take great steps to enhance Gps.
I know this wouldnt help this little guy (and sister?) nor the 2 children that were found to have been duck taped and torchured.

SO's proven to be the perpatrator sentenced to death by the Federal Government. No waiting years on death row. Directly from the court house to a Federal SO place where they are public viewing or video, so every person will know, you hurt a child you die.

did we find out why the grandparents did not go directly to the hospital? Maybe they were in denial. What a horrid thing to find out about.

Do we know what town in Washington Parish the crime happened in?

Louisiana has tried that but it was ruled unconstitutional.
Governor Jindal Releases Statement Outraged at Supreme Court Ruling That Louisiana Death Penalty in Child Rape Case Unconstitutional

http://gov.louisiana.gov/index.cfm?md=newsroom&tmp=detail&articleID=268

BATON ROUGE – Governor Bobby Jindal released a statement today, outraged at the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the death penalty in a Louisiana case given for a man convicted of child rape (Patrick Kennedy case). The Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty for the brutal crime of child rape was “unconstitutional,” and Jindal released the following statement calling their ruling an “affront to the people of Louisiana” and vowing to amend the state’s laws to maintain death as a penalty for the crime.

Governor Jindal said, “I am outraged by the Supreme Court’s decision. It is an affront to the people of Louisiana and the jury’s unanimous decision in this case.

I just got home from work, and I had a couple of messages waiting for me. I did connect with the grandmother on FB yesterday. I invited her to read here so she could see that we are all concerned for her grandson and want to see justice served, as well as ensure there are no future victims. She has asked me to call her, which I will do as soon as I change my clothes and feed the kitties.

Also, I did e-mail the reporter Saturday night. We've been playing phone tag, so I haven't spoken with her.

ETA: In her message, she said OCS was notified. In her words, "He was in the system for almost wo years, and the system failed..."

I'm sorry I must have missed that - do we know or have reason to believe the grandparents didn't take the child directly to hospital?

I will have to go back and read the links and watch the video again. I was under the impression that they had, and that the hospital staff, mandated reporters, had gotten the legal ball rolling. I thought that was why the grandparents were so shocked to be told there was no case on file. They called one form of local LE to follow up and were told to contact the parish LE, and when they contacted the parish LE they were told why are you waiting three months to report and since he is two and can't name his rapist there really is no case.

Or maybe I got it wrong??

Going back to re-read

The article is not clear on when the child was taken to the hospital but only stated that within weeks the lesions and blisters appeared and that those blisters and lesions are documented in hospital records.

This does not mean IMO that the grandparents did not immediately seek medical treatment for this little guy, just that the hospital was visited and documented the lesions.

Thank yo uso much Bessie for reachign out to these grandparents. I cannot imagine how hurtful this whole thing has been for them, not to mention these sweet, innocent children.

anxiously awaiting your updates to see how we can assist in justice for this precious little guy...

Bessie any updates? I also want to know what in the world is going on! How can this little boy heal when there is nothing going on with this case?! God forbid this perv have any contact with this child!

I agree that the article is not clear about the timeline. However, I find it odd that the grandparents would need to make a formal complaint about their daughter. Maybe it was a formality. Typically that is done by the state.

Being that the little guy was "in the system" for the last two years, tells me that he was most likely more exposed to drugs (which automatically cues DHS involvement or SHOULD) or that there were other reports about abuse and/or neglect. If he was born drug exposed, it would be unusual for the mother to retain custody of the second child, IMO, unless she was in a drug treatment program and showing great improvement. This could have been the case and then she went on a bender.

Bessie, bless you for your work on this. I'm so pleased you invited the grandmother to read our thread. My prayers go out to her, her husband and those little ones.

If the grandmother does read here, she is welcome to post. She would just need to alert Tricia as she likes to know when those closely involved with a crime are posting.

Bless this couple as they are in a position many in this country are in, raising their grandkids. Bless this little guy and his sissy. May they know only hapiness, tenderness and love from this point.

I have a lot of respect for Gov. Jindal. I don't live in LA right now but lived there in the past in La Place and Metarie. Hope he looks into this case.

I'm sharing this like mad on my networking sites, and contacting anyone I know who can put some weight behind this. I really would like to see more media get behind this story.

One of my concerns, folks, is that without using the grandparents' name as they are given in the article, I am not certain that the WS thread will come up in a google search concerning this case. We, as a forum, need to make a stand on an issue like this. In other words, the more raised voices, the better.

I am hopeful that the mods might make an exception in this case, given the fact that the family's name is known locally and has been well reported.

And thank you, Bessie, for a very pertinent and timely article. Man, does it inform this case, IMO.

Hi Everybody - We can not, as a forum, write to folks and talk about WS. What any poster does on his own time, is his own business, and we don't ever try to tell a poster what to do in that case. The only rule is that you can't involve WS.

I hope that helps.

As for using the grandparents' names, they are named in the media, so their names can be used. I will not add their names to the thread title without clearing that with Tricia & Admin first, just for privacy reasons.

We use initials here out of respect to victims, but if a person is named in the media, their name can be used.

Bessie has provided contact information (thank you Bessie). And I find asking the media to do a follow up story can be helpful. I doubt Nancy Grace would do a story on this particular case because of the sensitivity of the issue - but maybe?

This little guy does deserve justice and other little ones deserve to be safe. I can't imagine that Washington County residents would feel all that safe if they know there is a child rapist walking free among them???:furious::furious::furious::furious::furious:

Thank you Salem for clarifying the rules. I truly think that discussing the case and using the grandparents' names, Darnay and Calvin Thibodaux, might be helpful. I'd personally like to see this case come up on far more searches than it is. Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting that people write and mention that we are working on this on WS. My main goal is to have the case be nudged upwards on google searches by our posts.

When posting, watch the spelling on the last name. It's not the most common.

I'm sorry I don't have any more information to share right now. We didn't really get to talk last night because the little boy was sick. I was going to call her back tonight, but I had a couple of errands and Christmas shopping to do after work, and didn't get home until very late. We will connect again in the next day or so, and I will post an update. Better yet, maybe she will come here to talk with us herself. She's a very determined woman.

In the meantime, there is nothing to stop us from spreading the word around. The ultimate goal is to incite the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office to act on this case, and noise from the public will help to make that happen.
