The NOPD is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing man.

Jermaine Diggs, 34, was last seen at a doctor’s appointment on June 26. Diggs was supposed to take a bus back to his assisted living facility but failed to do so.

Diggs was placed into the permanent care of the Louisiana Department of Health after a medical diagnosis.

Diggs is described as a black male standing about 5’4” and weighing about 130 pounds with a bald head and brown eyes. Diggs was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Jermaine Diggs is asked to contact NOPD Sixth District detectives at 504-658-6060.

Man facing murder charge escaped in June from mental facility in New Orleans, St. John sheriff says

A man who was found incompetent to stand trial for a 2006 murder in St. John the Baptist Parish escaped recently from a mental facility, according to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives said Jermaine Diggs, 34, who was facing a second-degree murder charge when he was found incompetent, left a court-ordered psychiatric appointment June 26 at a facility on Tulane Avenue and never returned.

The Sheriff’s Office first reported the escape in a news release Tuesday.

Detectives said Diggs should be considered dangerous, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest on a count of simple escape.

St. John man accused of murdering his brother rearrested after escaping New Orleans mental facility
A suspect in a St. John the Baptist Parish killing who escaped a New Orleans mental health facility last month was found Wednesday and rearrested.

The U.S. Marshals Service found Diggs in New Orleans with help from the Sheriff’s Office and the New Orleans Police Department. He is being held in New Orleans until he can be extradited to St. John Parish, where he will face one count of simple escape.
