Is Laura Broussard related to Ted Broussard (former landlord to Judy, Laura, and their mom; long time Broussard PD officer, and eventual Broussard assistant chief)?

Jmo
In South Louisiana we are all technically 4th to 6th cousins. Especially the Broussard lines because Acadiana was founded by Beausoleil Broussard. My maiden name is actually Broussard and I am his 5th great-grandaughter. With that being said...
(Excuse my spelling error on the Chief's secretary this is the correction)
Lora Mitchell Broussard is a Broussard by marriage; Spouse is Leslie Ross Broussard (Black)
Ted Broussard (White)
I will throw this in for fun the current Detective is Andrew Broussard (Black). He has told me that he was adopted.
I have not looked into their lines.

Are there any Hospital Pharmacy records from back then?

Jmo
There are not to my knowledge. I have always wondered if she made it to the pharmacy and since she had her mother's medicaid card there would have been record of that.

Laura seems pretty credible, so the question is: why did Paula change her tune ? Was she warned to or was she voluntarily protecting someone ?
I have always wondered that. She is pretty quiet now.

And for that matter, is either one related to sex offender Steve Broussard who was married to Shirley and who apparently had been having sex with Judy since she was a child?

I think you said Shirley was 16 years older than Judy, and Steve was 6 years older than Shirley. I know you said Shirley “acknowledged it” (the abuse, rape) after Steve was dead (and in hell I hope), but did Shirley know about? While it was happening? All when SHE, Judy’s big sister, was her nanny?! Off topic (and unrelated to the Broussard relationship question I asked at the top of this post) but why isn’t Shirley Ann Gary Broussard in jail?

Jmo
For the same reason her sister Mary Ann and her husband Pierre never saw the inside of a jail cell. The police picked and choose what broken laws were worth their time.
I haven't looked into the Ted Broussard and Steven Broussard lineage. I will look into those as well.

I guess I was wondering whether Richard Franks used his credit card or had a prescription filled that day

In the mid 80’s I was a young project mgmt consultant based out of ATL. Had clients and projects all over the county. I would help owners, developers, and contractors coordinate their development and construction projects, including hospitals, office buildings, hotels, etc.

One of my projects at the time was the addition of a new CT Scan (relatively new technology) at Dauterive Hosp in New Iberia. Probably flew down there for a day every couple of weeks, for about 8 months. It’s eye opening now to think that some of the things that have been talked about in this thread were happening at about that time, just a few miles away

The pharmacy is closed but the family might have the records stored. There was also Fred Fournet’s Drugstore and Dupont’s Pharmacy on Main Street during that period. Both were across from St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. Could Judy have walked to one of those pharmacies instead?

Hospital Pharmacy was the one that their mother had always used. Both Laura and Shirley confirmed that.

@Finding Magness, can you fill us in on what you think Eric’s timeline was for that day? Obvious holes, or I’m just very confused..

-Apparently he was at work when Judy went missing
-he got off work “late” (I got
the impression it was late afternoon, say, 3:30-5 pm ish)
-he then does what?

- Goes to Judy’s mom’s house
on W Hamilton only to be told
Judy is missing
- goes to Hospital Pharmacy to look
for Judy
- goes 23 mi back to…. Linden
(23 mi way) OR just goes to the
house on LaSalle.. ? where he
- is soon joined by his sister in law
& her husband
- who ask: “where’s Rickey?”
- ER basically says; “ya just missed
him. I got off work late, came
home, and he was sitting right
here on the porch all alone in a
car seat, and then..
- Judy’s sisters must’ve come and
picked him up, cause he’s not
not here now
- Ricky disappears for 2 days
- shows back up at Judy’s
mom’s house(?) and tells the
girls that he heard that Judy
got into a green 4 door car outside
the pharmacy according to
Hospital Pharmacy staff

The above cannot be right. Please help! Tia

Oh, and just how was Eric getting around that day? Was he still working in Lafayette where he had no car and the boss’s kid had to give him a ride home? Did the kid give him a ride home that day, expecting to then get together with Judy? This is too disgusting to even discuss

Here is the timeline I have compiled and where I find it is conflicting.

(The day we are recalling is Saturday, August 2, 1986)
Eric, Judy and Rickey were living by the Canal gas station on Lasalle St, St. Martinville, LA.

Shirley Gary, Judy's oldest sister, stated on 10/23/22 that she remembered Eric Richard being at the trailer at 312 Hamilton St. with Judy that morning.
(The only person that lived in the trailer at the time was their mother.)

Judy asked Eric to go with her to the pharmacy. He refused. "He instigated fights all morning."
When I ask Shirley to recall that days events she now said she doesn't remember if Eric was there or if she saw Judy that day.
(I don't push it because I don't want to influence her memories in any way.)

According to Shirley and Laura, Judy went to Hospital Drug Store to get her mother’s prescription according to their mother.
(It was open from 8 AM to 5 PM on Saturdays.)
Laura did not see her that Saturday.
Judy also had cash with her to get a gallon of milk for the widow next door. Laura believes her name was Doreen.

(the following is from the transcription of Eric Richards statement 1/18/23)
"She went to the drug store. She never came back. So, brother, uh, Nanny’s uh, brother in law, Steve. That’s his uh, that’s his real name, Steve, but we call him Ba’Boy. He said, you need to go look and see what’s going on ‘cause it’s been an hour"

(My translation of what Eric said) When Eric got to Judy's mother's house Ba'Boy told Eric to go look for Judy because she had not returned from the pharmacy.

At this point Rickey, Laura, Ba'Boy, Eric and Judy's mother were at the house on Hamilton Street.

Later that afternoon, Eric says he went to the police station and reported her missing. Eric say the police told him "she didn’t commit a crime or any kind of thing" so they wouldn't do anything.

Laura said Eric told her the cops spoke to the people at the pharmacy.
Eric says he was told by the staff she willingly got into the four-door green car.

Shirley said Eric left with Rickey shortly after Judy went missing on foot.
Laura said that Eric did not return until a day or two later for Rickey.

Marie, Eric's SIL, said Eric had just gotten off his job when Judy went missing. Eric said that he came home
to the house on Linden Lewis and the baby (Rickey) was in the car seat, by himself, on the porch. She does not recall if this happened on the Saturday or what the day of the week was.
Eric told his brother and Marie that no one was around. Eric called Glenn Dale, his brother, and Marie but she wasn’t sure if he had actually reported it to the police. She assumed it had just happened. When Marie and Glenn Dale got there Rickey was not there. Eric said that Judy’s sisters had already picked Rickey up.
At that time Marie and Glenn Dale lived 1/2 a block from Ray and Mary Food Store at 310 Church St Youngsville, LA.

Eric was not living at Linden Lewis at the time.

IMO Eric called Marie and Glen Dale, during the 24 hour period, after Judy was missing and before he got Rickey.
Oh, and just how was Eric getting around that day? Was he still working in Lafayette where he had no car and the boss’s kid had to give him a ride home? Did the kid give him a ride home that day, expecting to then get together with Judy? This is too disgusting to even discuss
Eric jumps back and forth between saying he had a car and didn't have a car.
He also says he wasn't working when they moved to St. Martinville to he was still working.

Laura said that he probably called his father to come get him from Hamilton.

Is there a way to pull up records of a car accident in the early 1980's? I don't have much information to go on. I do know the driver's name and DOB. There were 2 fatalities.

If you have an idea of about when and where it occured, maybe a search of newspaper archives.

I tried that. No luck. There was a story that I was told about changing of a vehicle's upholstery that doesn't make since so I am trying to debunk it.

Do you know where the car would've or could've been taken to have such work done? People in that line of work might've heard rumors either way. jmo

The people involved went to the junk yard/pick a part lot and cut out another vehicles interior. I believe the record of the wreck would be the only way to line up the time line.

Normally, police records might be a place to look, but I realize if it was local, that's not an option for you. What about hospitals, morgues, funeral homes or towing companies? Were any of these involved? You might be able to connect the dots that way.

The person that gave me the information is an ex-spouse and was extremely apprehensive about sharing the information the first place. It was a very abusive marriage and there has already been an attempt to intimidate her.
The police department does have the information. I never keep information from them in hopes that they will have time to work through some of it. I do what I can on my end and send emails when I can find records. I have been looking for this one one and off.

@Finding Magness , if you ever want to discuss things with us, but not on this public forum, you can start a private thread, also called direct messages. If you don't want to start it maybe someone else could. I have never done so. These direct messages ARE NOT MODERATED, and we can post whatever we like!!! Just a thought. JMO MOO
